43 | Abel Tasman National Park

🇬🇧 This morning we got up early and caught a boat ride to Torrent Bay, which took about 45 minutes from our campsite at Kaiteriteri. On the way we saw Split Apple Rock and Anchorage Bay. At Torrent Bay we went on a guided kayak trip around the estuary and along the coast to a place called Frenchman Bay where we had lunch.

The weather was beautiful and the sun shining down very hot, so we went for a short swim before getting back into our kayaks. We paddled out to a seal colony on Pinnacle Island before heading back to Torrent Bay. All together our kayak trip took 2.5 hours and my arms were very tired by the end. Unfortunately, Rob got really seasick on the last stretch, so the last 20 minutes we paddled as hard as we could to get back to shore quickly.

Back on dry land, he recovered quickly and we walked another couple of hours through the National Park to Anchorage. Because the tide was out we could take a shortcut through the estuary. At Anchorage the boat picked us back up and we returned to Kaiteriteri tired but happy.

🇩🇪 Heute Morgen sind wir früh aufgestanden und mit dem Boot nach Torrent Bay gefahren. Die Fahrt von unserem Campingplatz in Kaiteriteri dauerte etwa 45 Minuten. Unterwegs sahen wir Split Apple Rock und Anchorage Bay. In Torrent Bay machten wir eine geführte Kajaktour um die Mündung herum und entlang der Küste zu einem Ort namens Frenchman Bay, wo wir zu Mittag aßen.

Das Wetter war wunderschön und die Sonne schien sehr heiß, also gingen wir kurz schwimmen, bevor wir wieder in unsere Kajaks stiegen. Wir paddelten zu einer Robbenkolonie auf Pinnacle Island, bevor wir zurück nach Torrent Bay fuhren. Insgesamt dauerte unsere Kajaktour 2,5 Stunden und meine Arme waren am Ende sehr müde. Leider wurde Rob auf der letzten Strecke sehr seekrank, also paddelten wir die letzten 20 Minuten so schnell wir konnten, um schnell wieder ans Ufer zu kommen.

Wieder an Land erholte er sich schnell und wir wanderten noch ein zwei Stunden durch den Nationalpark nach Anchorage. Da Ebbe war, konnten wir eine Abkürzung durch die Mündung nehmen. In Anchorage holte uns das Boot wieder ab und wir kehrten müde, aber glücklich nach Kaiteriteri zurück.Read more
