🇬🇧 Both me and Rob have previously done the Cape Kidnappers hike. However, when I walked there 12 years ago my group didn't manage to walk the whole way because the tide came in and we had to turn around, so I was looking forward to actually finish it this time, and see the gannet colony at the end. The walk along the beach was very easy for the first two hours (apart from the constant threat of rock falls all along the beach due to erosion). Once we reached the first cape however, we had to wade through the water for a stretch, and ran into a seal that was not too happy about us being there. There was a bit of confusion around the path as it completely disappears and isn't maintained for a stretch. Finally, we climbed up onto the cliffs, which was quite steep. The gannet colony was just at the top of the cliff directly next to the path. It was a bit surreal seeing them so close to humans and not caring (tours drive up there on the road several times a day). We headed straight back because they absolutely stink, and because we had to make sure to return before the tide came in. The walk is supposed to take 5 hours, but that's excluding the final bit. We were lucky that we started so early as it took us 6 in total and we managed to get back just in time.

🇩🇪 Rob und ich haben beide die Wanderung zum Cape Kidnappers schon einmal gemacht. Als ich vor 12 Jahren dorthin ging, schaffte es meine Gruppe jedoch nicht, den ganzen Weg zu gehen, weil die Flut kam und wir umkehren mussten. Daher freute ich mich darauf, es dieses Mal tatsächlich zu Ende zu schaffen und am Ende die Tölpelkolonie zu sehen. Die ersten zwei Stunden des Spaziergangs am Strand waren sehr einfach (abgesehen von der ständigen Gefahr von Steinschlägen entlang des Strandes aufgrund von Erosion). Als wir jedoch das erste Kap erreichten, mussten wir ein Stück durch das Wasser waten und trafen auf eine Robbe, die nicht sehr glücklich darüber war, dass wir dort waren. Es gab ein wenig Verwirrung um den Pfad, da er auf einem Abschnitt vollständig verschwindet und nicht gepflegt wird. Und zu Ende kletterten wir auf die Klippen, die ziemlich steil waren. Die Tölpelkolonie befand sich direkt oben auf der Klippe neben dem Pfad. Es war ein wenig surreal, sie so nah an den Menschen und dennoch so gleichgültig zu sehen (Touren fahren mehrmals täglich über die Straße dorthin). Wir sind sofort zurückgegangen, weil es dort so nach Vogel stinkt und wir unbedingt vor der Flut zurück sein mussten. Die Wanderung soll 5 Stunden dauern, aber das letzte Stück ist da noch nicht mit eingerechnet. Wir hatten Glück, dass wir so früh losgelaufen sind, denn insgesamt haben wir 6 Stunden gebraucht und sind gerade noch rechtzeitig zurückgekommen.もっと詳しく
