    Quick stop over in Hanoi on our way from Ninh Binh .
    Were planning to go to Sapa but bad weather forecast made us change to Cat Ba Island.

    Mar 3–8 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

    Hoang Long Riverside Homestay. Really nice spot right on the river amongst the karst mountains. Playing billiards.

    Day 2:
    Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, by bicycle. Paddleboarding through the river near our hotel.

    Day 3:
    Trang An 3 hour boat ride along river, through caves, and to temples and pagodas

    Day 4:
    Hiked up to top of Hang Mua, busy with lots of tourists but nice view. Had a coffee in the cafe at the bottom and met a nice American couple on their honeymoon. Walked through old town. Went back to old town for dinner.

    Day 5:
    Cuc Phuong National Park, jungle & park tour.
    Tour van milk run picking up tourists on super narrow roads. Endangered monkey rescue centre, gibbons doing really loud escalating screams! Hike through jungle, lunch with other tourists, prehistoric man cave.    Read more

    Phong Nha / Ke Bang National Park

    Feb 27–Mar 3 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

    Head cold/ full sinuses. Private car then straight to the room to rest.

    Day 2 - beautiful scooter ride through the rice paddies and mountains to Paradise Cave. Kinda shitty scooter, old worn tire popped through the cords, luckily we were at 'Commander Cave' and had cell service. Sat and had a water in the shade while we waited for a replacement scooter. Super hot day.
    Continued to Paradise Cave and explored the cave, then headed back to beat the heat and Calvin not feeling 100%

    Chill days, recovering from sickness. Sitting by the pool, reading, riverside meals and coffee, playing cards

    Last full day March 2: chill day at Mooc spring. Swimming and chilling in the nice water. Inflatable toys, lunch and chilling

    Bike ride along the somewhat abandoned beach (restaurants and shops that look closed, maybe covid shutdowns?)
    Great Korean place: rice bowls, popcorn chicken
    Long bike ride to sand dunes, ATV ride and sand toboggans. Almost got my head taken off by cable tray on boardwalk, Kate warned me just in time...

    Feb 13–19 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

    Private car from Hoi An.
    Kate not feeling well, she napped all afternoon in Da Nang. I walked along the beach for awhile, swam in the ocean. Met with Kate at a nice dinner spot, deaf restaurant with sign language on the menu.

    Valentine's Day! Chill day on the beach. Nice dinner at Indian restaurant. Walking by we saw a crowd gathered, stopped to watch the dragon bridge breath fire and then it sprayed water and we got SOAKED 😂

    Grab bike up to Lady Buddha area, cool marble statues, monkeys
    Lunar New Year, happy year of the horse! 🐎
    Big stage and festival at the dragon bridge, fireworks at midnight. Kate sick in bed, food poisoning? 😔
    Watching winter Olympics

    Rainy day trip to Bana Hills & Golden Bridge (hands holding the bridge). Amazing meal at Michelin star restaurant, An Thoi.    Read more

    Got a private car from Danang to Hoi An.
    Really nice room for $27/night at May Boutique Villa
    Caught up with Doug and Brenda Kelly, afternoon coffee and supper (BBQ fish and chicken), more hangs and suppers over several days
    Hoi An old town. 200 & 300 year old houses, when it was an old port town. Old Japanese bridge. Very cool architecture all over the place.
    Delicious noodles, from local Chinese called Cao Lau (pronounced cow lao)
    Mr Bean Bar!! 😂
    My Son Sanctuary - old ruins built between 8th century and 13th century. Rented a motorbike to get there 😁
    Bamboo boat tour, super spins made me super nauseous and need a 3 hour nap 🤢    Read more

    Accidentally booked a room for Feb 2027, waited at entranceway for someone 3 hours then went somewhere else 😂

    Feb 2 Dinner with Shane, Gloria, Allen in District 2 near their hotel

    Feb 3 Apartment Cafe, walking street, old post office, War Remnants Museum (super dark & sad, war crimes and effects of agent orange)

    Banh Xeo - Vietnamese Pancake, lettuce wrapped
    Banh Can - mini rice flour cakes with eggs. Great breakfast that we had right outside our hotel
