• CP Day 5 to Albergue Casa do Sardão

    August 30 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

We enjoyed a slow stroll on the Camino today, 16 km over 5 hours. We walked through villages, along narrow walkways with old stone walls. The ocean was in view in the distance and often we could hear it. It was the best of both worlds.
We are staying in an incredible albergue tonight, Casa do Sardao in Carreco. It is a farm that has been in the owner’s family for 150 years. We managed to get a private bunkie with our own bathroom that backs onto the horse and sheep pasture. We have a fig tree right behind us that the horses come right up and pull the figs off to eat. So beautiful! We’ve also been picking apples and hand feeding them.
For dinner tonight, we ordered in from a local restaurant. Pizza, chicken, ribs, fries, rice and salad. Boy was it delicious. Take out came in ceramic dishes. No paper or plastic. We rinsed them out and placed them in a bin that will be collected by the restaurant tomorrow. It might be old world here, but in many ways so far ahead of us.
The rain has set in for the evening. So cozy to listen to while lying in bed. Grateful to not be walking in it and really hoping it stops before morning.
