    Slea Head Drive

    September 27, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

We woke up to gusty winds and a light rain so we headed down to the pub for breakfast. Wes got a traditional Irish breakfast (yeah, the one with the white and black puddings) while Rachel went with a waffle and fruit. We decided to attempt the Slea Head Drive despite the weather conditions. Slea Head Drive is 38km route that takes you around the Dingle Peninsula with various places to stop and take in the views. Our first stop along the drive was Ceann Tra' or Ventry Beach. Next we checked out the Fahan Beehive huts; houses made from stacked rings of stone, one of top of the other, positioning each layer a little further inward, without any mortar, until a snug, pointed roof was formed to cap the structure. These were thought to have been built anywhere between the eighth to 12th centuries. It was onto Cashel Murphy, which is believed to date back to about 3200bc, and consists of defensive walls protecting 5 family huts.Read more
