Gerard is researching his ancestry and has discovered that in the 1930's his grandfather's brother moved to Pierceland. It is a small place, 400 people, but apparently there are alot of Gelowitz's living there. Making a trip to find some relatives. Read more

    Cold Lake AB

    So we drove through Pierceland and went to Cold Lake AB. Its only a twenty minute drive. Had supper at a cute little restaurant, walked along the boardwalk and the beach. Then made a quick trip to the air force base. Its kind of a nice place and worth another visit.Read more

    In Pierceland we did meet some first cousins-once-removed. Went to the original homestead. The pile of rocks is what is left of the house. Looks like horses live there now.
    We stayed overnight at Maguire's Bridge Bed and Breakfast. Awesome place with very pleasant hosts.Read more

    We spent the morning at one of Gerard's cousins, then drove almost the whole length of Meadow Lake Provincial Park.
    We stayed at a lovely place called Water's Edge Eco Lodge. Its got a very nice retreat feel to it and was just nice to hang out after a day of heavy visiting.
    Side note: I tried canoeing for the first time ever and it was pretty good. I am not a swimmer and unsure of the water. So this was a huge hurdle. Thanks Linda for planting the seeds for me to think about conquering my fears.
    Side note 2:Saw a bear as we were leaving the park but we didn't have a camera ready.    Read more
