left late afternoon, drove two hours, found campsite. nothing here, ugly campsite but hot tea and good books.

a long drive to Beaune and then a very beautiful one through the vineyards. nice campsite, the weather is lovely and for tea i had crusty bread with lovely cheese, pate and rhubarb marmelade.

Millau

I drove all the way to Millau! First I drove almost two hours through lovely countryside on small roads, following a little stream. Loads of cows and black legged sheep. I forgot how 'active' the driving in France can be, but even after so many years it felt like yesterday, and I know the roads and remember how fast the French can drive!
Then I joined the autoroutes and curved all the way south. Still some snow on the chaines des Volcans! My car defininetely has to go in the slow lane driving uphill..that's why I decided not to cross the Pyreneen on some exciting pass, but throug to Barcelona and then take a right. (but not today!) Also, the campsite here is very nice, it's warm and there's good internet. I am planning to finish my sketching on the sunday for the challenge, then drive on tomorrow.Read more

Millau 2

Today I spent my day working in the shade on my sketches for the brand8ng challenge. What a silly idea to do a challenge whilst travelling! I knew I would have a driving day monday and had to finish it today. It's not my best work but it will be a pleasing addition to my portfolio.

From the campsite you can just see the famous Millau viaduct. I'll try to take a picture of it tomorrow. Early night, tired of working!Read more

travelday Millau - Huesca

Very misty start of the day, mountainroad in a fat fog, not so fun. i drove all the way direction Barcelona, then Lleida, then Huesca. A very long drive but for the most part beautiful and really quiet. Except for the region of Barcelona, but all well. Very good drivers and much less pushy and stressed than the French. I saw eagles! The famous flying doors! The campsite is 22 km from Huesca over tiny roads through tiny villages. I have a good view, amazing strawberries and a very exciting landscape!

A little trip through the rugged landscape of Aragon. Just enjoying all the flowers (poppies!) and the red villages. Enormous castles on the hills. This time of year most are only to be visited on appointment, but i can't be botheted yet. I picked up my router in Huesca and worked in the afternoon. Very windy and fresh, sat in the car, so cosy. Instant noodles and petit suisses for dinner. Life is good. Tomorrow the moodboard voor Mind will be finished.Read more

Huesca to Soria

Today I visited the region of Aragon. Castles, bizar rockformations and sweeping running grass. Really beautiful.
Then i drove on to Soria, where I was the only person on the site (30km from the city). Matlde and her dog Luna gave me a very intensive lesson in Spanish. As it's really cold here, and stormy windy I snuggled up in bed early.
Distances in Spain are bigger than you think, roads are sometimes really bad, an sometimes really good, you never know.Read more

It was so cold this morning! 5 degrees, and i can handle cold, but not the icy winds that came with it! i couldn't even make a cup of tea, and had to pull out my wintercoat from under the chair (which i didn't have to do even in Norway).originally i wanted to go to madrid, but i don't want to go now, i'll save it for a citytrip in the future so it gets more time. Instead i drove to Toledo and i am superexcited to see all the El Greco paintings tomorrow!

Toledo!Love at first sight! Took de bus from the campsite and walked all day in the narrow streets. I visited churches, synagogues and cloistets. So nice! And El Greco, the paintings i have wanted to see my whole life. Unfortunately some things were closed, so Iwill just have go back..Read more

Merida

Nice drive to Merida, throug purple flowering fields. Everything is very green now, sunny and windy. I took the long road and had a great picknick at an artificial lake. Drove through a village that looked beautiful but not inviting and settled on the only campsite here.

So this was a rest and sketchingday in Merida. Looked at horses and birds. Went shopping. Repaired my cookingthingy. And did some sightseeing in Merida. The Roman remains are really cool. I expected the aquaduct to be much higher and shorter, but it was lower and longer! Also, the road goes underneath and you have to wait turns to squeeze your car through.Read more

Fr9m Merida to Cordoba

Again loved driving through the countryside. So many flowers, so many colours! Stopped here and there to have a look see in some villages and now here i am near Cordoba. It has been 32 years..

Today i visited the Madinat El-Zahra, just outside Cordoba. It's a city in ruins, with a museum and a shuttlebus that shuttles you up to the site. 32 Years ago, we stayed on a campsite which overlooked these ruins. You could go there, but not really visit.
This campsite has vanished btw.
I loved the site, and the museum. There's a good film about the site and you can look through huge windows in the depot.
After that i bought some gaz at decathlon and fresh food at Lidl.
Saw the same bit of road three times, because i kept missing my exit, but finally back at the campsite to eat some fresh crusty bread with sheeps cheese. (on the road i saw several sheepherds with their herd and dogs, beautiful)Read more

Again too beautiful. Instead of taking the highway i chose the smallest roads, sometimes so steep and narrow..Wonderful view of the sniwy peaks of the Sierra Nevada. This week the weather will be a bit colder and maybe even rainy. I think tomorrow is a car-studio day!Read more

Rainy and cold. A perfect day to work and relax. It's also lovely and quiet because almost everybody left.

In the enening sunny. I went for a walk, everything is crispy fresh!

Very cooooold night!
But now I am, strictly speaking, past my turningpoint and on my way north.
Today I saw a lot of houses in caves, castles, and rain...
Lovely campsite, sweet people. Forecast for tomorrow is rainy, but that's good to work and to have lunch in the restaurant next door. Looking forward to that, smells wonderful.

Feeling ok I visited Elche this morning.
This city, and the whole region, is famous for its palmtrees, there are many "palmares". I's even the name of the campsite. I visited the beautiful Huerto del Cura, palmtrees and cactae, and peacocks! Then I just randomly wandered the streets until I found my car again.. Bougt spinach for dinner and a drink I didn't kbow. Supersweet sparkly wine with lemon, without alcohol. Yum.Read more

I am in Almetlla, on a giant campsite, but: a few minutes from beautiful beaches and coves. This morning I walked before breakfast and saw so many birds (and rabbits).
Because it's not so warm, all the views are so colourful and crisp!
In the afternoon I took a longer walk on the GR92, took my lunch and walkingstick. How lovely is the smell of gorse and seabreeze! I just might stay another day, walk in the opposite direction and take my sketchbook...Read more

Short trip to Escala, campcite in the village, close to beach and everything. More to come.

Strolled on the seafront and into town. Lovely small town, bit quiet on a Sunday, and it's not yet the season. But I like these kind of places very much, especially out of season.
Children playing in the sea in their underwear, small boats. I love it.Read more
