  • Huang Shan

    December 23, 2014 in China ⋅ 🌙 1 °C

Hiking one of the most gorgeous mountain in China-- Huang Shan. I've been wanting to do this for a long time and it is great to be here with the whole family. I always thought the mountains and trees in Chinese paintings look very abstract, but being here prooves that they were not abstract afterall. This mountain is breath taking!Read more

  • Huang Shan

    December 24, 2014 in China ⋅ 🌙 2 °C

Saw sun rise at this beautiful place and did a 10 mile hike to see some other scenic area in the Huang Shan area. There are total of 72 peaks and only 20 are accessible. And of that 20, some are often closed for a few years for nature preservation. This mountain is well visited by local tourists, and without schedule closures, nature would not be able to rebound from the constant wear and tears.Read more

  • Feng Huang old town, Hunan

    December 27, 2014 in China ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

We made it to Feng Huang old town, something on my bucket this! This is a well preserved town that was established more than 2000 years ago. Not sure when most of the current town buildings were built, but walking on these streets is a total step back in time! It was raining and cold today, but worth the trip. Oh and since this town has always been a gathering center for the Miao (Hmong) minority groups, I bought a little bag from this 73 year old lady. It took her one whole day to make this.Read more

  • Xijiang Miao village

    December 29, 2014 in China ⋅ 🌧 28 °C

One of the best thing in Guizhou, China, is the rich minority culture. Xijiang Miao village is one of the largest Miao village, housing about 1300 families. It is a bit more developed, but still nice in the low seasons. Miao people in China are down to earth and love makig friends. Many chatted up with me and are super hospitable. Walking away from the main streets into the hill sides gives you a chance to see how they live their daily lives. Gorgeous landscapes, interesting people, and a nice break from the big city's busy pace.Read more

  • Zhaou Xing Don Village

    January 2, 2015 in China ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

Our new friends Ama and Tsen took us to one of the largest Don Village in China. Ama is Don people, and we were able to get a glimps of the rich Don culture in Zaou Xing. This village is already a bit commercialized, but you can still see many villagers living their rustic lives. Afterwards we went to Liping, met up with Ama's friend and had a nice time at a local restaurant. Not a lot of Westerners travel through this part of China. Many still have a very healthy curiosity in our culture. Kids would come and practice English with us. A TV station even interviewed me at the Village. Ama's friend and Tsen did not have English names, so we suggested Emily and James. In return, they figured out a Chinese name for Kevin. Good cultural exchange moment today!Read more

  • Ama's house

    January 3, 2015 in China ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

This is our last night in Guizhou and we have decided to cook a meal for our friends here who took great care of us. Non of them knew us before we got here, but we were treated to great meals and tours to minority villages. Not to mention most of our attempts fighting for cheques failed... We wanted to thank them by cooking some special food they have not tasted before. Garlic rubbed toast, Japanese chicken skin salad, poutine, pork belly sliders. We cheered to beer with lime and salt! What a great trip and thank you so much! We will miss you!Read more

  • Paradise cave and Dark cave

    January 14, 2015 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

This is by far my favorite part of the trip. We went to the Paradise Cave first that is filled with beautiful, giant stalactites. The cave was huge and took about an hour to walk through. We then head to the Dark Cave. It was one of the most memorable experience. The Dark Cave was filled with mud and you have to expore it with a lighted helmet. At the end of the trail there was a mud pool so thick and gooy that you can literally sit and float. Our pictures were no good in the dark, so you just have to trust us that it was incredibly dirty and fun!!!Read more
