Luang Prabang, Laos

We arrived in Luang Prabang just in time for Boun Heua Fai (also called Lai Heua Fai), the festival celebrating the end of Buddhist Lent and the monsoon season, known as the "Festival of Light" or "Festival of Fire Boats."

We watched the parade through the city, candle-lit fire boats made of bamboo were carried along and being released into the Mekong River. We joined in the tradition by placing our own handmade offering—floats decorated with candles and flowers—onto the water.
