    After 4 hours of driving and a quick stop in Timaru for lunch we made it to Lake Tekapo. Lake Tekapo is a beautiful turquois lake situated beside Mt John. We did an easy 3 hour walk that took us up Mt John. Mt John is known for its astronomy observatories. This area is specially classified as a dark sky reserve due to minimal light pollution. They do special night tours here to look at the stars. A bit too expensive for us we headed to our campsite to look at stars from our lawn chairs. The conditions were perfect. Clear sky with no moon. It was amazing to look up at the sky. So many twinkling stars, more than I have ever seen before. I wish we could have gotten a photo or video but nothing I took turned out.Read more
