Forster

We packed the tent up wearing our swimming costumes in mild rain, then moved down the coast to Forster which lies on the coast backing onto inland lakes. We chose a site off the main coast line and set up. As soon as we settled the rain started to fall and it was biblical. A caravan pitched up next to us not long after the heavens opened and we watched from under our canopy as Brett the owner set up in atrocious conditions - at least the rain was warm. We were under a deep weather depression and the locals were delighted to see some rain after a summer of drought, many people on the park were from the inland farming belt and they were hoping the rain would get over the Great Dividing Range to give some relief to the farmers. It continued to rain for 20 hours. The following day the sky had lifted so we decided to go for a walk around the town and to do their bicentenary walk along the coastal path. On the walk to the information centre we considered buying some sun screen, as the sun came out unexpectedly but by the time we left the information centre the sky had darkened once more and the rains came. We finished our walk very wet as when the rain did start it continued for 36 hours, generally very heavy to sometimes biblical. This country throws in some extremes. The forecast was for a dryish spell for a couple of hours in the morning when we were dropping the tent to travel to see Gina, Paul and Ellie in Wallarah where G's cousin lives.
Hats off to the manufacturers of our tent - very little rain got through the canvas into the sleeping area and we were able to sleep through the storm, all was intact in the morning. Once again we dropped the tent in our swimming costumes - but this time the rain was heavy, we could not shake off the rain on the tent quick enough so we had to fold the unit over with puddles on the canvas. We assumed that the tent would be soaking throughout when we re-opened it up later in the day.Read more
