📌 We travelled to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania via a beautiful Christmas decorated train. Vilnius was much larger than Kaunas, and it has the largest old town in the Baltics due to Lithuania once having the crown of the largest country in Europe in the past.
📌 Vilnius was lovely to walk around, we were lucky with no rain but unfortunately no snow. The days were short but once it was dark, around 4pm, the Christmas lights and trees looked amazing! Many shops and hotels had decorated their front windows. The Christmas market in the centre was smaller than other cities but it didn't need to be large as the tree was grand and the surrounding buildings were beautiful.
📌 We had some delicious meals in Vilnius, we went all out at a steak/grill restaurant, we had some traditional Lithuanian, and we enjoyed some Georgian also! The carbs however were starting to become an effort, as our appetites were so quenched, the next meal felt like it needed to be many hours away.
📌 Our few days included some visiting of a former KGB government prison/office which provided an interesting history of Lithuanian occupation. Additionally, we visited an old Lithuanian and Soviet prison used as a set in stranger things, now converted to a bar/restaurant and art space.Read more
