Keeley Reserve, Karapiro – we’ve just spent four lovely nights here, and wow, it’s been the busiest we’ve ever seen it camper-wise. Plenty happening on the river, which makes for great sitting-back-and-watching entertainment.
We met some really lovely people and even made a few four-legged friends along the way (always happy to throw a stick 🐶).
Maggie also had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed rolling around in the dirt — living her best feral caravan-cat life 😹
Once the weather turns itself on, we reckon this place will deliver some absolutely amazing sunsets.
A couple of things to note: I wouldn’t recommend the toilets, and there are no rubbish bins on site. The freedom camping area does get very boggy after rain, but the council is totally relaxed about where you park. They come around daily and have no issues with length of stay or parking spots, which is good to see.
