    Wellington to Taihape

    March 18, 2023 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

This morning, we rented a small, Nissan, SUV & drove to Taihape, which claims to be the “gumboot capital of the world.” The town holds an annual festival in April to celebrate Rural living & gumboot throwing! The town was booming as a regular train stop in the 1950’s & 60’s but is showing signs of decline since the railway no longer stops here. Population is around 1800, many of whom service the local rural community. We stayed in a nice Airbnb.Read more
