    Off to a flying start

    July 26 in England ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Three became four after a pit stop to collect Mia. After an emotional reunion between father & daughter & three emergency porcupines we headed Norf for a few days of flat (hopefully) coast walking. Looking forward to finding a wild camp spot for 3 Dursons and Mia’s two person 3kg blackout tent!!! ⛺️
A lovely 10 mile walk got us to Amble where we played charades before setting up a lil wild camp ⛺️ ⛺️⛺️⛺️ To top the evening off nicely we had fireworks 🎆

  • Amble > Dunstanburgh Castle

    July 27 in England ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Awoke after a slightly less than peaceful night's sleep to find thankfully no rats had snuggled in with us, despite warnings from a well-meaning dog walker. First stop was a funky cafe in an art gallery for the first solid brew + cake! Then carried on to a STUN wild swim stop for a refreshing dip and napette and hot drinks. Made it just in time to a pub to eat kippers and cheer on the lionesses at the sole pub in a lil village before pitching up at the foot of a castle. Got approached by a couple of men not to move us on but offer us fish, as you do up north. Corker of a day really!!Read more

  • Craster > Budle

    July 28 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

The day started with a fab fried egg roll and mediocre coffee from the golf club. Debbie’s rating of the coffee 0-5.
Conflicted opinions of the route which we would later find out was due to the estuary walk only being open in July & August. After a lovely sunny days walking mostly inland we had to split the pack of 4 as Mia & Robin had had enough of us… 😉
For Debbie and I the end of the day came by way of a little campsite on the estuary near Budle where we cooked on our little stove and had a quick dip/wild wash in the Estuary. Robin & Mia crashed in a farmers field near Belford. Mia read her kindle in the long grass with the spiders 🕷️ while Robin drank rum.

  • Budle Bay - Goswick Sand Dunes

    July 29 in England ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Debbie & I left our free for hikers campsite to head inland. After a warm 7 miles & a missed turn came our first stop to get breakfast at a farm shop in Belford. Dare I say another low score for the coffee 1.5 / 5.
Diverse day with railway crossings that you had to phone ahead & get permission to cross, industrial area, a small forest to eventually be reunited with our missing cog, aka Robin after he saw Mia off on the bus to Berwick.
The rest of the day we tramped a total of 22 miles where we set up camp in the sand dunes.

  • Goswick Golf Club - Berwick

    July 30 in England ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

A 7:15am lie in today for Debbie and I while Robin was rudely awoken by the hound of the Baskerville at 07:30. Lazy lil sloth 🦥
Sun was shining for our last day on the Northumberland Coast Path Hike. Only 7 miles to our destination. Conversation mostly consisted of rating coffee & toilet humor. Robin bravely offered to take one for the team by trying the local arcade coffee. Rating a whole 2.5 / 5. Debbie went for an artisan coffee which got 2 / 5. I went for coffee on the train to Edinburgh and gave it 3.5 / 5.
Loved the hike for its flatness, golf course club houses for their opening times, chips (Robin & Mia), castles, Kippers (Debbie & Marianne) & the warm and welcoming people.

  • Holy Island

    August 2 in England ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

After heading back from Edinburgh we had a little detour to Holy Island.
Decided to walk the 3 miles across the causeway, excited to see 3 seals 🦭 sunning themselves as we enjoyed a sunny crossing.
Checked out the Priory and the church. A little tasting session at Lindesfarne Winery before catching the first of 4 busses back to our start point & car at Cresswell. Didn’t want the adventure to end so chilled on the beach watching the waves before pitching our tents in the dunes for one more night.
    P.S. finally a 5 / 5 flat white for Debbie ☕️
