  • Last of Turkey and entry to Georgia

    June 6, 2023 in Turkey ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

On our way out of the Turkish mountains, and to the Black Sea to hit the border of Sarpi with Georgia.
Early morning after filling up fuel in turkey we got our first fine for speeding 86 and 60 zone 🤷‍♂️. The fine was to be paid at the border and resulted in quite a delay as it needed to be paid in cash.
Beautiful mountain roads all day long after that.
At the coast of the Black Sea, we opted for another night in the hotel as it was about to rain.
In the early morning, we cross the border to Georgia taking around 1: 30 .

  • First days in Georgia

    June 7, 2023 in Georgia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

After passing the border into Georgia, we passed the famous town of Batumi. Lots of construction from the Russians and crazy traffic on the roads.
We are heading north in search of the famous mountain routs.
As we approach the mountains, heavy rain clouds were in view, so we decided to set up camp.
Found a lovely camp spot and made a fire but the rain did come in the night. We had to wait untill 2pm next day to dry everything and keep going.
Finally made to to 1,500 m elevation and are enjoying the mountains 🏔️

    June 8, 2023 in Georgia ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

The road wanted to take at the Zagari Pass just over the town of Ushguli was opened one day ago as the snow and ice was melting. We were upon the first to venture up there, just to find a mess of different vehicles stuck on the mountain pass.

We decided to not attempt this passage with our motorcycle, and instead spent the whole day up there, making friends and helping others out of their sticky situations

This is Paul from Hamburg traveling georgia for a few months stuck with his 4x4

    June 10, 2023 in Georgia ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

After all these days in the nature, we decided it was time to see the city life again. We spent two full days in Tbilisi capital of Georgia.
Crazy traffic, a very loud metro and slow service seemed to be a thing here.
Through the power of social media an old school friend of mine Charlie from Mallorca became aware that i was in Tbilisi. I had not seen him in over 14 years and we met up for a great dinner, thank you again!

We are heading back to the capital Tbilisi.
On the way back, we decided to go-karting, on a track. We had spotted two days ago on our last campsite. After some great fun and setting new track records, we decided to keep up the motoring spirit and organise Lara‘s first driving lesson on the motorbike.
Five minutes in the instructor upgrades her from the crash bike ( red) to the new practice motorbike (black). Great talent apparently, ready for a license soon? 👀

Next morning, it was time to say goodbye, we spent a great 10 days together, and now it is time to continue alone. 🫶

  • In two and a half days through Russia

    June 15, 2023 in Russia ⋅ 🌩️ 26 °C

At the border crossing into Russia, I had to wait around six hours. It was difficult to fill out the documents, but no bigger problems are encountered.
At the border i then met a Belgium couple and a Dutch couple in the camper vans which had been there even longer and we helped each other where possible.
They knew some other travellers that have gone through Russia recently, and there were reports of corrupt policeman, so we decided to stay in the 3 for the duration of this passage.
We passed through Chechnya and slept a second night in Astrakhan. We tried the Russian abandoned MC Donalds and only met very nice people on the road.
Big police state though with many controls along the way.
On the 3rd day we hit the border with kazhastan and after 2 hours we were in.

  • New tyres for my bike! 🛞

    June 18, 2023 in Kazakhstan ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

As we left the camp spot in the morning, a group of six Turkish riders, and one German overtook us. I decided to join them for the next part of my trip.

It was time to say goodbye to my Belgium and Dutch escort. Thankyou 🫶

Are you full day of off-road riding was ahead unfortunately one of the Turkish guys fell and broke four ribs so the journey was over for them.

I continue with Marcus, a German also on the road since three weeks. Because of the bad roads, one of his spokes broke, and for me, my back tire was down to 0%, the metal weaving showing.

So we use the second half of the day for some repairs and tire changes in the next city.
