We took a taxi to our hotel in Porto. Dropped off our bags and stopped in to a cafe for coffee, quiche, strudel, and the Portuguese traditional danish called the nata.

    Off to explore the city.

Video was taken later, as we entered our room. This place is an experience. Door man in a top hat, fancy elevator with a seat in it...

Porto's first 5 start hotel that opened in 1951. Nice place.

  • Cathedral & Bishops Palace

    April 6, 2024 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 64 °F

We walked to the main cathedral in Porto and toured the Cathedral and Bishop's Palace. I think this is where our Camino passports originated and were stamped initially. Live performers were in the square. Beautiful views of the city from the square and the cathedral tower.Read more

We walked to the market and down Santa Catarina Street for some shopping. Bought some jewelry, a purse made out of cork, a scarf, a Camino ring that spins, a painted spoon dish... all of these are hand crafted by local artisans. I'll take more pictures when I get home.Read more

  • Nata

    April 7, 2024 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 57 °F

Nata, or Pasteis de nata is Portuguese for cream pastries. It's a tart-sized pastry with a crispy flaky crust and a pudding, flan like filling. It is not very sweet, and the good ones are warm, extra vanilla-y, and taste like they have alcohol in them.

I'm going to learn how to make these because they are so yummy. I had them 2 or 3 times yesterday and picked up 3 more at the airport.

    April 8, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

After 4 flights and 25 hours, I arrived home at about 2 am.

I slept so well in my nice, soft bed. And now I enjoy my espresso while taking in the sea view and listening to the birds and waves and humanity at play.

I'm so grateful for the Camino experience. The adventure was challenging and pushed me to surrender, acceptance, and growth. I met new friends from across the world, enjoyed time with my sister, explored new regions, played in the rain and the ocean, and frolicked over rocks, through mud, and magical eucalyptus forests.

I believe I will return and do the Camino again one day. I will take much more time, pack everything on my back, stay at albergues interspersed with an occasional nice hotel, and perhaps try a different route.

Until my next adventure, I have each new day to explore, and every moment and every breath to explore with child-like wonder and gratitude.
