This really seems to be happening. We’re travelling south on way to pick up Helen then onto Land’s End. Who’s idea was it to start on Good Friday? I think it was to reduce the risk of midges in Scotland 🤔. First traffic jam hitLæs mere

Frogpool to Indian Queens. 22miles. 743 metres ascent on beautiful quiet lanes. Truro on Easter Sunday morning was very quiet. And the cathedral a little unwelcoming- so we went to Greggs! Lots of Chiffchaffs, a few squirrels, very few cars.Læs mere

19m Started off in rain. Lots of mud, a few tricky footpaths, long wet grass. Scrounged a cup of tea from a self catering place I’d stayed at a couple of years ago. Weather improved as the day went on and a pleasant yomp along the Camel Trail.Læs mere

  • Day 6 LEJOG to Bridestowe

    12. april 2023, England ⋅ 🌬 6 °C

Storm Noah ensured a wet and windy day with added sleet and hail. At least it was at the back of us mostly. Launceston was a nice old town ( up a hill!) and a pastie shop. Passed the 100miles and left Cornwall behind. More lanes and muddy paths and ended at pub in Bridestowe. 19.4 miles and 7 or so ahead of schedule.Læs mere

  • Day7 LEJOG

    13. april 2023, England ⋅ ⛅ 4 °C

Some early rain but ended in glorious sun. Almost warm! Walked on edge of Dartmore, Tarka trail,Devon Way ,Granite way and more - but still quite a bit of tarmac. Our locked footpath of the day was a flooded underpass meaning a 3/4 mile extra 😟Met a lovely Devon man clearing drains and 2 amazing ladies in the Spreyton community shop. A lovely pint ofDevon cider in the pub. Pasties and Tunnock’s still powering us along too.Læs mere

  • LEJOG DAY 8

    14. april 2023, England ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

21.3 miles. Another wet start. Rain remaining till midday😟. But with Colin’s great support, with crumpets and tea we trundled on. Chatted to a friendly chap with knowledge of horse racing in Crediton, who donated. Then onwards to Thorverton. Decided we had enough energy to go up and over to Bickleigh by the raging River Exe. A lot of Road plodding again but remarkably ok.Læs mere

    ToClaptonof Gordano. 21.4 miles. 238.4miles

Photo of last night’s sunset. A dull start from Weston super Mare on a route not many would take - but actually very good and swift along a cycleway. Met by Colin and Finn for tea and Hotxbuns. Then onwards on paths through fields avoiding dykes, along by the M5 and onwards to Clevedon. Stop for butties then up onto the hill above. Past Cadbury Camp( an iron age fort - no chocolate) and down to Clapton in Gordana with the lovely old Black Horse for cider. First view of the Severn Bridges- quite emotional.Læs mere

  • LEJOG DAY 13

    19. april 2023, Wales ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

Wonderful night in pub last night. Quiz night again - and we won £90 and we’re given another £10 for our charities.
Wee lanes by side of M5, where a BMW was close to taking us out at speed. Thankfully Finn wasn’t with us. Then over the Avonmouth bridge. A great greasy spoon - the Scran Van - for a superb egg and mushroom roll - huge! Then heads down and along the industrial estates to the Severn Bridge. Encountered a route change- badly signed - and a wee ‘encounter’. Survived unscathed. Over the Severn Bridge ( at pace for Helen!) and onwards to Chepstow castle. A real milestone for us. Into Wales, briefly.
    259.6miles done.

    22. april 2023, England ⋅ ☁️ 3 °C

14.4 miles. 314.4miles. A very misty and muddy walk today. Cold too. We were on the Three Choirs Way - but very sparsely signed and rarely walked. But good walking all the same. Cleared and warmed towards the end. Past a grumpy lama. We’re doing smaller miles the next few days as we are a day ahead 😊and staying at Helen’s house. So chance for Helen to be a proper wife and mother- as well as walk. We had the pleasure of Lady and Flash’s company today. Good dogs. It’s of stiles to be lifted over.Læs mere

  • Lejog day 17

    23. april 2023, England

19 miles 333 miles total. A little warmer this am but dull. Within 5 minutes came across a field of a dozen big pigs that had just woken up,and we both quickly jumped back out of the mud over the stile and decided to go by road. Rolling fields took us to Bromyard where the hotel were ‘too busy’ to give us a cup of tea😟. So coke and hotxbun on a bench. Onwards over more pleasant countryside, through very wet oil seed rape and onto Clifton upon Teme where we met Tim and Lynn and Arthur dog. Thanks so much for the tea and cake. Then onwards on the Worcestershire way to Abbeley and our awaiting chaffeur.Læs mere

Wonderful cakes and coffee in Bewdley then onwards up the Severn to the Visitor centre. Sandpipers, sand martins and goodanders. Prompt pick up by Ollie. Went home via ROBINSON’s cider that we have developed a taste for and they very kindly donated 12 bottles. 😊
