    Stunning

    The primary purpose for our visit to Prague is to get the Troopy serviced (we've managed to find someone who specialises in Landcruisers). But, it is also a great opportunity to come back to this wonderful city. We find a campsite within easy reach of the city centre, and walk for many kms exploring the old town. The size of the "old town" is extremely large, with stunning buildings and public spaces around every corner.Read more

    Magical Cesky

    With a successful Troopy service conducted in the suburbs of Prague, we hit the road and head south. We have one final night in the Czech Republic in the beautiful little town of Cesky Krumlov. It's a wonderfully preserved medieval town and well worth a stopover.Read more

    An Old Favourite

    August 29 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

    Our focus has been on getting through the kms before our Schengen visa expires. So, the days of driving have been long, and the stops have been short. But we manage to fit in a short side visit to one of our favourite locations - the Hintertux valley in Austria. In the past, this has been a winter skiing destination for us, but it's equally appealing in the warmer months. We take a couple of days off and enjoy the valley. Austria is also a new country for the Troopy, so another flag.Read more

    Poorly Done, But....

    August 31 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

    After our lovely break in the Hintertux Valley, we head West, aiming for the English Channel. This route takes us through Liechtenstein and Switzerland. I think we were in Liechtenstein for about 20 minutes, and we certainly didn't focus on sightseeing in Switzerland (but we did cross it from West to East). All up, we only had one night in both, but it was in a nice little campground below a small castle. Most importantly, the Troopy earned two more flags.Read more

    Wonderful Campsite

    September 1 in France ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

    Our route takes us through the North East corner of France, and the Alsace wine region. We find an overnight camp in a family winery in the small village of Gueberschwihr. We do a wine tasting (and purchase a few) and explore the village. The corner bakery had huge, fresh croissants in the morning. A great stopover!Read more

    The Last Flag for 2026

    September 2 in Luxembourg ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

    We could have stayed in France, but it's only a small diversion to call into Luxembourg. As a result, the Troopy earns a new flag, which will be the last for this year. You can't help but think this country has got "things" sorted out. It's affluent, and it shows. It's clean and lovely. Public transport is free! Outside of the city centre, there is not much to get tourists excited, but we think it's worth at least a short visit.Read more

    A Worthy Stop

    September 3 in Belgium ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

    Our diversion to Luxembourg puts us on track to travel through Southern Belgium to get to Calais. While this region has an interesting medieval history, it is the military battles of the past few hundred years that have defined it. Not least Waterloo, but also WW1. We decide on an overnight stay in Ypres. We have time to visit the "In Flanders Fields" museum, and attend the Last Post at Menin Gate. The carved lions that "stand guard" at the front of the gate are replicas. The original lions can be found at the Australian war Memorial, presented by the Mayor of Ypres in recognition of the sacrifice made by Australian soldiers.Read more

    White Cliffs

    September 7 in England ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

    The ferry trip from Calais to Dover was a bit on the rough side, with "near gale force" winds. Fortunately, no issues, and when we're safely on land, we set about exploring (quickly) the Southern English coastline. We were surprised by the extent of the White Cliffs, stretching almost to Brighton. The few beaches in this region usually consist of pebbles, not sand. Of course, castles and stately homes are ever-present. Most importantly, the Troopy gets some minor repairs and a new battery when we get to Portsmouth.Read more

    A Bit More of the South Coast

    September 10 in England ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

    Time is running out, with only a couple of weeks before we start our flights home. We've decided on about nine days in Ireland, which gives us a few more days in England before we catch a ferry from Wales. We stick to the South Coast, picking up Exmouth, Torquay, and Plymouth on the way. The beaches feature pebbles more than sand, and we find the further West we head, the more appealing the seaside towns and cities become. The traffic, however, is far from pleasant.Read more

    The End of the Road

    September 12 in England ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

    We've headed West along the South Coast of England for long enough, we decide we might as well go the whole way. We make it to Lands End. So, in this trip, we've visited the most North Eastly point of mainland UK (John O'Groats in May) and the most South Westerly point (Lands End). We enjoy a celebratory beer in the "First and Last Inn".Read more

    Back to Ireland

    September 15 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

    After Lands End, it's a quick trip around to South Wales where we catch a ferry back to Ireland. We land in Rosslare late in the evening and spend the night camped at Culletons Pub. The Guinness and pub dinners are great. From there, we explore the South East counties of Wexford and Waterford and visit Blarney Castle. The stone was kissed!Read more

    Great Drives

    September 18 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

    We continue West along the Southern Irish coastline. This takes us to the much hyped "Ring of Kerry" and "Slea Head Drive" touring routes. The Kerry route had some lovely views, but we didn't think it lived up to its reputation. But the Slea Head drive, out of the town of Dingle, was spectacular. The town of Dingle itself was great fun (despite the terrible weather), and we got to see the King Puck statue in Killorglin (in recognition of the crowning a goat each year during their county fair). They have been doing it for over 300 years!Read more

    Wild Atlantic Way

    September 20 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

    As we head north, we stick to the small roads that follow the Atlantic coast. It's dominated by steep cliffs and lighthouses, with just the occasional inlet providing a safe harbour and beach.
