We are spending 10 days in Kyoto with Grandpa Bernard. It's not the first time we visited this magnificent place. We were all here for a few days in November 2022.

Back then, the combination of traditional temples and gardens in combination with the autumn reds was truly a highlight of our world tour. How is it this time? Well, just like any case where your expectations are sky high, it's difficult to match them. The result has been close, and any miss is largely down to the weather. ( The autumn is not quite in full swing yet, but it has started) There are upsides too, in that we, or should I say Flo and Bernard, have managed to organise a far better culinary programme than our profi guide did last time. Yum, yum.

In spending a few days here, we also take time to observe the mad mix of ultra conservative behaviour and social rules combined with utterly mad stuff and perverted things.

Ultra conservative: No Japanese ever walks whilst eating. You are repeatedly reminded to eat food only in or directly in front of the shop. In the market, this is also broadcast in English and Japanese.

Crazy: The shops and some of the gear the sell are sometimes crazy.

Perverse: There are lots of young women in short girly clothes that will keep you company for a price. Apparently, it's normally only company, but the whole look is clearly aimed at perverted fantasies.Читать далее
