Millmondo Tours 2018 is a cycling tour made up of 5 Aussie Baby Bloomers. It just turned out being blokes only! Overall we will be cycling for 5 weeks in Germany/Belgium/France and walking/treking for one week in the Black Forest. Read more

    Farewell Koblenz

    We all were up showered fed and bags in the car by 6.40am. We then enjoyed incident free drive from Alpirsbach mainly on autobahn back to Koblenz where we offloaded our bags onto the Patria and returned our rental car to ... this is true .. the ticketing office at the main rail station. (I was relieved to receive confirmation of car having been returned undamaged etc three days later from Europcar).
    We spent the afternoon at Einstein Cafe in the Alstadt of Koblenz .. Perhaps we should have left earlier but we left in time to attend the 5pm cyclists briefing onboard the Patria.
    Again about 60 cyclists on this week's tour which sees us cycling upstream on the Rhine and Neckar Rivers. The forecast hot (low 30s) temperatures are a bit of a concern.
    After dinner I took time to enjoy the sunset over Koblenz as after 8 visits it is highly likely that this will be my last to this lovely German town.. my favourite in fact.    Read more

    A Lazy Day

    Everyone was thankful for the fact that today's ride was only around 20klm as the heat from yesterday had certainly impacted on Geoff and Dogs (and I suspect Tickets albeit he would not say so).

    Dash to Tour End

    The last cycle day before Dogs and Robert head home to Oz leaving Geoff Mr Rutherford and I to cycle from Brugges to Paris. Today's ride of 45klm was done by 1am. Rain overnight had the Neckar River flowing at higher level than normal. The last stretch was challenging .. note slope of pathway in picture of Dogs and Geoff Stephens at dinner table.. We shall be here for several hours eating pomme fritz, goulash soup apple kuchen all washed down with gas water beer and more beer. Tonight we have our last dinner on the Patria ..     Cycle Free Day

    Arose punctually at 7.55am for 8am breakfast of cereal then scrambled eggs etc and lovely cup of coffee. At nominated time reported along with other cyclists on deck to offload cycles and do the days ride. It was a bit chilly. Raymond had decided to stay onbaord for the day so I also did same .. shorfly afterwards Geoff appearedat gangplank and returned to boat. So we all spent day reading, dozing, drinking and just plain relaxing on deck. We passed thru 6 locks and saw lots of villages and farmland. We picked up the other cyclists around 5pm which was 1.5 hours later than expected so we were glad we had not been sitting around with them waiting for the boat!Read more

    On the Road Again

    The wind decided to bellow into our faces most of the day and it impacted on our progress somewhat.
    The Feneks had to pass under numerous low level structures so the captain's cabin was lowered meaning Captain had to steer ship from open deck all day.
    Our first stop on today's cycle tour was at a garlic farm in ...... where the French speaking lady owner fussed over us as tho we were her long lost sons and daughters. The farming machinery was worth millions.
    In one barn in a back corner a 1946 Citroen sat covered in centimetres of dust .. the odometer said 29860 .. not sure if KLM or miles.
    We had lunch in ..... at a restaurant where Raymond and I had fried duck and Geoff had carbonara. All meals were delightful.
    We cycled on to Hermies passing several war memorial sites some of which we visited where we boarded the Feneks.
    Soon after the Feneks sailed we passed thru a 3500m tunnel .. awesome feeling.    Read more

    Uphill Uphill and Finally Down

    The skies were grey and everyone checked that their rain jackets were handy.
    We experienced several instances of light showers but nothing which took clothes more than 30 minutes to dry.
    Whilst the first 25klm had a few inclines it was the final 90 metre climb over a kilometre which tested most out. My trusty steed was first of the non e-bikes to summit .. guess after 4 weeks I have some fitness in the old legs.
    We visited French mansions, a coffee shop/mini golf facility in the middle of a forest and the venue where the armistice ending WW1 was signed .. a rail carriage in the middle of nowhere.
    Tonight we are berthed in Compiegne where Joan of Arc met her doom.    Read more

    We are Sailing

    Raymond and I had a lay day so no cycling for us. It gave us the chance to further visit Compiegne before returning to the Feniks to do our washing and enjoy a leisurely cruise .

    The group cy led thru lovely forested areas and visited a French Castle which was open so they duely paid their money and did the inside tour.

    They rejoined the vessel at 3.30pm and after doing their washing has some eats on the upper deck before engaging in vigorous social interactions ... ontheir devices.    Read more
