Etroubles

Left Grand St Bernard’s Pass in the clouds this morning and descended steeply towards the valley below and passed through neat little villages that have a history of providing service to travellers and others who pass through. At Saint Rhémy I stopped a pilgrim rest stop where you could make a log book entry. One of the locals collected the demographics of the walkers. Chatted to a man and his daughter who had walked all the way from the Netherlands.
Once the path reached the valley it flattened out and took me through cute villages and grand rural landscapes.
Etroubles is a small town and has made a huge effort to attract visitors - lovely streetscape and permanent outdoor art works, in a lovely valley. I visited a small old butter factory and had a private tour by an Italian nonna.
