Headed back to Sao Barnabe to try and find the previous house but couldn't get closer than a couple of miles away. Estate agent had told us that the road was suitable for the motorhome, it so wasn't! We decided that I would walk to the house while Jayne stayed with the motorhome. Jesus, I wouldn't have wanted to tackle the 'road' in anything less than a 4x4. Finally reached the house, ready to move into they said. If you like looking at the stars through the collapsed roof sure! The place was falling down and in a right state. Oh well maybe the next property will be the one. Decided to take the weekend off and chill on a motorhome park in Silves for a couple of days while we decide on where to go next.Read more

Lost in Portugal, Bonnie Tyler!

Ok so we drove about 500km north to south to see a couple of properties, one of which has been on Jaynes list of favourites since June. We were going to spend a couple of days parked at the place to get a feel for it. Coordinates kept taking us down dirt tracks unsuitable for the motorhome and we ended up doubling back 3 or 4 times. Eventually as it got dark we have up and are spending the night on a petrol station car park. Will try again tomorrow.Read more

Stopped off here before our first property viewing. Stunning views of the barragem and dam with plenty of lake shore beaches. Imagine it would be very busy in the summer.
As for the property, as much as we wanted to love the place, unfortunately we didn't. The location was good, peaceful and far enough away from ant neighbours, an amazing enclosed courtyard but the house itself didn't work for us. Dark and poorly laid out. It was a real shame but Monday brings more viewings.Read more

Arrived in Serta with a few hours to spare before meeting with the estate agent. Very productive meeting and arranged 5 viewings for Monday, even arranged an independent viewing for Sunday.
Serta is a lovely small town with plenty to do, great parking next to the river with a lovely little cafe just a few yards away.
Public toilets available although we didn't use them.Read more

Now this is more like it. It's a beautiful evening to spend with a glass of wine looking out over the water.
Tomorrow we will head to Serta and our first meeting with the estate agent.
So far we have done nearly 1900km on 3 tanks of diesel and arrived in Portugal in 3 days.Read more

After a quick stop for dinner, we took advantage of the services to shower fill up with water and empty the waste before moving on. Although we appreciate the fact that the town has supplied us with this aire the views were nothing to brag about so we moved just a few minutes away to better scenery.Read more

Hola, welcome to spain.

Woke today at 7.40 thinking of a nice early start. Made coffee and cereal, took Tess for a quick walk then it dawned on me. We are in France and an hour ahead. Finally got moving at about 10.45.
So another long day of driving but made quite pleasant by the glorious sunshine and mid 20's temperature.
With just a quick lunch stop we finally made it into spain just after 6.30.
Quick trip into the supermarket for the essentials, beer, wine and pizza and it's time to chill for the evening before running for Portugal tomorrow.Read more

Apart from a brief lunch stop we have pretty much driven all day. Well about 10 hours, and made it about half way through France. Jayne has found us a nice little aire next to the river with free water and waste dump but more importantly free WiFi. I do love free wifi.Read more

Up at 0545 ready for the 0750 train however when we checked in it produced a ticket for 0950. Doh! Still we were checked in in time so talked our way onto the correct one. 35 minutes later, bonjour we were in France.Read more

After dropping off the car we headed for the tunnel and found a great stop off before boarding our early train tomorrow morning. The doghouse micro brewery and vinyl bar. Great location, friendly and helpful staff and good beer and food. Bodes well for the rest of our trip.Read more

Even though we only completed half a season, thanks Covid 19, it felt like the end of a full season for us on Sunday. Still feeling a little guilty leaving today seeing as how the park will remain open until the end of October but I'm sure that Tom, Rob and Emily will cope for a few weeks without us. Anyway 1st stop was to drop the car off then south towards the Eurotunnel.Read more
