Started out as a good day. Pulled up my crab trap, which felt heavier than normal. Had seven large Dungenous Crabs! However, four of them were female, so had to release them. Still, the three male will make a good meal. The skinless boneless piece of chicken I had used for bait since day one was pretty rank and not much of it left, so I added another piece from my supper last night. I’m not sure how the crab got it in, but one of them also brought in a large fish head. LOL. So I added that to the bait bag.
Today we mostly explored River’s Inlet, up to where Darby Channel joins it. Explored two boat wrecks in Home Bay. Passed close by Duncanby Lodge Fishing Resort. Went into Draney Narrows to check out Fish Hook Bay. Into Johnson Bay, and then Good Hope Bay where Good Hope Cannery is located. No longer a cannery, but appears to be another wilderness fishing lodge. Turned into Darby Channel passing Dawsons Landing. We had hoped to visit this old, somewhat historic general store, but they were closed today. Continued down Darby Channel to Finn Bay. Lots of remnants of past or current logging. I think it was Johnson Bay that had what may have been a berthing barge for loggers. Several log booms were seen in all channels and bays. Along with a couple log slides at two locations. We had planned to anchor for the night in Finn Bay, but it ended up deeper than what the charts showed, plus it looked like a rocky bottom. Not a lot of anchorages for small boats in this area, so we decided to continue on. Fifer Nook looked like it might be a possibility, so we continued out into Fitz Hugh Sound, which was pretty choppy with 1-2 foot waves. I went up on plane to get there quicker to check it out, and also because I was ready to be done for the day. Fifer did not look encouraging. Maybe room for one boat, but little room to swing on the anchor. The next possibility that looked much better on the charts, was Green Island. I ran behind Addenbroke Island and Corvette Islands via Fairmile Passage, and into the anchorage just west of Green Island. Bill and Mike continued up Fitze Hugh Sound until turning in to Fifer Bay and then following my route. This anchorage worked out, but does have some slight rolling from left over swells coming in off Fitz.
Never got above 51 degrees out, and rain started around 9am. Been raining the rest of the day, but nice to wash all the salt off the boat!
