Sutera Harbour resort, Kota Kinabalu

The early morning was wet - as forecast - coupled with Mags sore back, which was
much better than yesterday, we decided against golf.
After a leisurely breakfast went on a sightseeing trip into town, initially to find the Atkinson Clock Tower that we had been threatening to visit for a while. The clock tower was built in 1905 in honour of a District Commissioner who had died of Malaria at the age of only 28.
Just next to the clock was a mural remembering the Australian assistance in rebuilding Kota Kinabalu after WW2, and a lovely little street full of artisan craft and coffee shops where partook of a coffee and a very nice pistachio gateau. After which we walked to see a few of the city sights, passing some quirky buildings.
For dinner we walked across to the sister hotel. This started off a bit like a sketch from Faulty Towers. Having managed to order tiger prawns with chips and a bottle of red wine, a bottle of white wine appeared. When we said this was incorrect the waitress said “No, you ordered white wine”. When we showed her that we hadn’t she tried to get us to accept the white wine, to which we refused and she wandered of in a daze not knowing how to rectify the situation, which wasn’t really a big deal as the bottle was unopened! Eventually a bottle of re wine appeared.
A waiter came by with 2 plates of chips and asked if we wanted rice. We pointed out that he wasn’t carrying rice and so off he went to do a tour of the restaurant in search of a home for the chips, only to return under supervision a few minutes later. As time went on we began to wonder if we would ever get our dinner. Eventually our prawns arrived long after we had finished our chips, and were very nice.Read more
