Day 1 Overview - Bayonne to Ustaritz

Left Bayonne around 10.30 and arrived in Ustaritz just after 16.00. Total hike of 15km in 3h 19mins plus long lunchtime siesta plus two longer stops on a bench. At each stop I took off my shoes and Andrea protected two hotspots with Compeed. Those were the only places threatening to develop blisters. But as my feet were gradually getting very hot I remembered that I had brought sandals specifically for such a situation - toes unconfined - heaven! And the sun was out all day with a slight cooling breeze, perfect. So overall this has been a very good day and I made it.
The weather forecast is not good, temperature drop and rain for tomorrow. And we will be leaving the river with its flat tow path. Mountains or hills? We’ll see…Leggi altro
