• First Gale Brings High Seas

    Departing Curaçao under strong winds, we learned we would be in for some weather. A perfect trifecta of conditions where trade winds, strong current, and katabatic winds from Sierra Nevada de Stanta Marta mixed. It led to gale force winds and wave heights above 15 feet. Fortunately we were running with a following sea so the motion was fairly gentle. However it was a lesson in resonance as every few minutes the frequency of waves relative to the ships hull aligned and caused a roll of 6 degrees.Read more
