    Last big stint

    September 14 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Had a bit of a sleep in today, knowing Pop loves a sleep in and we weren't having to rush back. We said our goodbyes and got on the road. We always hate this stint, not just because it means the holiday is over, it's just a boring road that we've done a bunch of times. We stopped at Woolgoolga for a late lunch, stopped at White Salt, bloody good feed! We shared fish tacos and got calamari and salad wraps. Had a little walk and look at the beach, then back on the road to Coffs for a brief and the final fuel stop of the trip. Stopped at the service centre at Port Macquarie for a toilet break and a coffee on the way home.Read more

    Evans Head

    September 13 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Had a great sleep and slowly moving this morning. Went for a shower, freshened up and went for a walk. The tide was quite high and the water looked beautiful! But then the wind whipped through and damn was it cold. We walked up the breakwall, which copped a lot of damage in the Feb floods, heaps of rocks washed off into the water, Pop said he was able to get Ma's memorial plaque off her rock before the water raged through, somehow her rock survived though. We went to Sandpit Cafe at the surf club for a feed, cubano sandwich and chips for Ben, haloumi breakfast wrap for me and a coffee. Continued on our walk and met back up with Pop at his place. We sat in the sunshine and relaxed before hopping in the car with Pop and Joy to go upto Razorback lookout, such a great view but too windy to make prawn rolls. Back down to Shark Bay, much more protected from the wind and still a lovely spot. We peeled 2kg of prawns and made rolls, sooo good. I even peeled my own, Pop used to do them for me for years when we went to Eastern Tiger for everyone's birthday dinners. He was impressed with how quick I've gotten haha. Back for a snooze, because why not? Then up for beer o'clock and nibbles. Barry the neighbour popped around for a bit and Joy did too. It got pretty cold so we ended up inside, had cocktail frankfurts and just stayed up talking crap before bed. It was really nice.Read more

    To Evans Head

    September 12 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Dad didn't have any meetings this morning, so we walked up the road to Cafe 63 for breakfast before he went to work. They're a big chain in QLD, we've been to a few in Toowoomba with the kids. Walked back and relaxed at dads for a while. We reorganised our washing for the last few days and just got things sorted. We popped into Ballina to stock back up on a few things, dan murphys of course, woolies and northern rivers seafood for cheap prawns. We're staying at Evans Head with Pop for the next 2 nights, before heading home. Last we saw him was early 2020. Arrived at beer o'clock, we just chatted and caught up. Joy, a 'friend' of Pop's came around too, we met her last time, lovely lady. Stayed up pretty late just catching up, had pork chops and veggies for dinner.Read more

    September 11 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

We followed Dad, spending a night there in Ascot, just out of Brisbane. The sun was shining and it was a lovely afternoon, so we put a load of washing on and we all went for a walk. Dad showed us his local area and we had a drink at the Hamilton Hotel. We walked along the river, Dad headed back and we kept going for a while, before grabbing some scooters and heading to Eat Street. The scooter boundary stopped us from going the whole way, so we walked the last bit. Ben hasn't been to Eat Street before. I guess you could say it's like a fancy food court? With music and booze haha. We had Brisket and mac & cheese, cannoli, Dumplings, bugs and chips, oysters and shared donut fries and ice cream for dessert. We walked back to Dad's and stayed up for a while chatting before bed.Read more

    A family costco run

    September 11 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Didn't appreciate the 10am checkout, but we were up and moving anyway, tidying up and packing the ute. The kids decorated their gingerbread men we bought yesterday, Noah was laughing about them being his siblings. Once we were all organised, we ran the keys back then met the others at Sunset pier cafe, for brunch. We bought a ginger beer for the kids to try, aiden licked the top and didn't like it haha. Noah tried it but wasn't a fan of the 'spicy lemonade', but Bella was a fan. Big brekkies for everyone. Kristy and I had already decided we were going to Northlakes Costco, they don't have a membership, haven't been before and weren't sure if it would be worth paying for a membership without knowing what its like, also their closest store is Ipswitch. Brad and Dad decided to come too, so we had a nice family outing at costco haha. Ben and I ended up with the kids for most of it, cruising around, looking for free samples, and there were plenty. They enjoyed that. We grabbed 2 pizzas to share for lunch before everyone headed home.Read more

Strawberry and Dessert Festival with Bel

    September 10 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Bella and I walked down to the water to see if we could work out where the music was coming from. We spotted a heap of coloured lights on the other side of the bridge, so I looked it up and the Strawberry and dessert festival was on. It looks like Sandstone Point often have markets and festivals. There were still tickets available, and Bella and I were keen, so Kristy and Chris dropped us off for a little while, while they went for a drive around. We went on 2 rides, ate our chip on a stick, had a look at the market stalls, watched a Strawberry icecream eating competition, and bella had some dessert while we listened to the music. Great Bella and Becca time. We spotted on the schedule that there were fireworks soon, so we headed back, got Aiden and Noah and we walked back down to the water to watch them. It was nice. Back to the airbnb for a bbq. Not as late a night tonight, except for Brad and Chris again haha.Read more

    Bribie Island

    September 10 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

After our late night, Ben and I got a decent sleep in, thank god for Earplugs, the kids and Brad were up early swimming. Much nicer day for a swim. Kristy did a coffee run and we just enjoyed the sunshine, watching the kids in the pool. Ben had already scoped out the closest pub, Bribie island hotel, so we all got ready and walked along the water to lunch. It's a great pub, they have lots of shows and a massive outdoor area with a playground and flying fox. They were setting up the stage, as the Screaming Jets are playing tonight. Full bellies and a late night meant a lot of us were pretty keen for a nap, so we headed back. Ben watched the first grade cardiff boys in their finals, it was being streamed on bar TV. Otherwise everyone had some quiet time, Brad ducked out to the shops, Kristy, Chris, Bella and I napped, and when Dad got up, Noah and Aiden were straight into the pool. We all got up and were sitting in the outdoor space and we could hear music, it didn't sound like it was the right type of music or coming from the right direction for it to be the pub.Read more

    To Bribie Island

    September 9 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We went to the real estate on Bribie Island to pick up the keys, Dad arrived around the same time as us, about 4:30. The others all had work today and a longer drive, so didn't get in until closer to 7:30. We just caught up with Dad and went for a walk to grab the menu from a local Chinese place, saved any of us cooking and meant that if the others got held up, it's easy to reheat. Kristy and co arrived first, and Chris and I did a bottleo run and picked up dinner. The kids went for a swim, even though the pool was pretty cold, crazies. Brad and Aiden weren't far behind, Aleix couldn't make it, she had work both days. Quite a late night, Ben and I went to bed just before 4, Brad and Chris were the last 2 up.Read more

Hervey Bay and some big things

    September 9 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

Woke up to an overcast Hervey Bay, we went and drove past the pier, it looked nice but too cold for a walk. A few big things on the list today. First stop was at Nala, the Hervey Bay big whale. On the road to Traveston next to see Matilda, the Kangaroo. It started raining and we headed to Noosa for lunch. The Reef Hotel was lovely, I had a pie and veggies and Ben had a steak. We waited out the rain for a little bit before moving on. A quick stop at the Noosa Big pelican, which was much bigger than we were expecting. Our next destination was the Ginger Factory, now I'm not the biggest fan of ginger at all and although Ben likes gingerbread, he's a bit the same. But we couldn't miss the opportunity to bully our nephew haaaaha. Also Ben wanted to see if it had changed since last time he was there, which he said it hasn't really. It was a really good spot! We made some funny videos to send Noah about his true birthplace and various things, good fun haha. A quick stop at the Big Pineapple before heading to check into the airbnb.Read more

Ohana Cider House then on the road

    September 8 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

The Ohana cider house was next on the list, we shared a tasting paddle and cheese platter. We tried the dry, regular apple, passionfruit and pineapple ciders, as well as their Lemonade and ginger beer. They were pretty good and I bought a 4 pack of the passionfruit. The lady laughed that its quite popular, she's not sure if it's the flavour or the 8%. I was going with the flavour, but the percentage is a bonus. A quick stop at macadamias Australia. They were pretty pretentious there and it was getting late, so we grabbed our honey roasted macas and got back on the road to Hervey Bay for our last night in the tent!Read more
