Max's First Road Trip

  • Noosa

    28. maj, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Very windy overnight, but beautiful and clear this morning. We headed the half an hour north to Noosa to start the day. We came through here on our way home from the Cape, it was pouring down though, so it was a quick drive through and a run into a pub for a feed. We didn't recognise most of it. It is so lovely here, would love to go for a paddle on the water next time. We cruised through one of the main streets with lots of fancy shops, near the main beach and the spit. There is a dog park here, but ya know, not Pup's vibe at all. We plugged in the Big Pelican and found a park right nearby. I grabbed a coffee and the ladies there were very intrigued by the Tush baby Max was sitting on, on my hip, it's been very handy. We went for a walk along the foreshore, very lovely and another mall of shops nearby. We'd planned on going to a brewery for lunch, but that didn't open for another 45 mins, so we went for a bit of a walk to the woolies to grab a few supplies and to kill some time. It was heating up a lot, so after we got what we needed, Ben and Max headed for the car, while Pup and I chilled, waiting for our ride. It was just too hot and far to make Pup walk the way back. Lots of oldies loved him, asking questions and amazed that he's almost 16. Probably helped that he was scooped up onto my lap for a bit because he was pacing and getting annoyed, assuming because Ben and Max had left. It wasn't long and our ride arrived, with Max snoozing in the back.Læs mere

  • A sunny afternoon

    28. maj, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

We headed to Land and Sea Brewery for lunch. Max was still snoozing and we noticed a sign for the Noosa Chocolate Factory, so we popped in and got a few little bits to try, before going over to the brewery to grab a table. Weirdly they didn't do paddles, not that it mattered to us, just surprising. I got a fish burger and a chicken burger for Ben, each with a different beer to try. It was getting quite warm in the sun, but we were lapping it up with the rain on the way. We took the longer way back via the coast, sussing out the local towns. A few spots we'd like to stay at in the future. Back to the camper for the usual evening things, while tracking the state of origin updates. They did have it on the TV at the restaurant, but we didn't feel like sitting around outside with a bunch of Queenslanders.Læs mere

  • Back on the road

    29. maj, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

On the move today, as we were starting to pack up, the family next to us looked like they were on the move too, then Ben heard them say something about moving sites. Later, the woman was asking how we managed to stay in the site with the fans going (pool related exhaust fans we think), we didn't actually notice, but we've also got Kirra the Koala going with her lullaby or white noise for Max anyway. They couldn't handle it any more and had to move. We originally had 3 nights booked here, but decided to head to Dad's for some extra time with him, the weather is also looking scrappy which is convenient. I popped into the office to give them the heads up that we'd be heading off early, as soon as I said our site number, the look on their face made me think they were worried we were going to complain about the fans too. The relief on their face was evident, when I said we'd had a wonderful stay and was just giving them a courtesy heads up that our site would be vacant soon. I grabbed a coffee and Cheesecake crossiant to share, from the on-site restaurant, Driftwood, while Ben hooked the camper to the car. The gps took us a weird, winding way to the freeway, it wouldn't have been so bad if it didn't take us up some bloody steep roads while towing the camper. We had a quick stop at The Big Pineapple, they have a wildlife centre there now as well as a cafe and another stage of their Reno's coming soon apparently.Læs mere

  • Hello Dad!

    29. maj, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Not far to Dad's place in Ascot, Brisbane, we stopped at Costco North Lakes to fuel up along the way. Max slept for the drive which was fab! Not long after we arrived, we all went for a walk down to the main street, everything is so convenient and close! Just scoping out options, before heading back to catch up. Dad had heard about Aromas on Ascot apparently having amazing schnittys, so we had to try them for dinner. Holy dooley! There were over 20 schnitty options (plus a full regular menu) and they were bloody huuuge, easily the size of 2 schnitzels side by side! Max tried a chippy, he wasn't sure at first but didn't seem to hate it. A short wander back with our food babies for more catching up.Læs mere

  • A rainy Friday

    30. maj, Australien ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

Another drizzly day today, so it was pretty quiet, well needed for us all I think with a few day naps, laundry and more family time. Dad cooked up a mix of burgers, our leftover schnittys and bits and pieces for dinner. There was a slight break in the rain, so we ducked down to Milani for gelato after dinner. Max had a sneaky taste and seemed to enjoy it, surprisingly haha. He's definitely getting more interested in food now.Læs mere

  • Rain rain go away

    31. maj, Australien ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

Happy same time in as out for Max! Can't exactly say 9 months in, 9 months out, but ya know.
We got a bit of a sleep in today, thanks Max! Still a fair bit of rain, just constant which was annoying. We just went through our usual routines, nap, play, feed etc, very chilled. The rain slowed enough that we decided to get out of the house and headed to cafe 63 for lunch, they're in Toowoomba as well, their menu is simple I guess but extensive, so many options! Steak sandwich for me and a chicken burger for Ben, while Max chewed on a piece of steak, definitely takes after his Dad. When we got back the rain had picked back up again and Max was due for a nap. We're heading to Brad's at Pacific Pines today, but the rain made it painful to try and run our stuff back out to the ute. So we just had a snooze with Max and waited for the next cycle. Pup was not thrilled about going out in the rain t get to the car. Still raining but it was getting late, we're on the road to Brad's now, not far to go.Læs mere

  • Family BBQ

    31. maj, Australien ⋅ 🌧 16 °C

When we arrived at Brad's, we prepped the potato bake before being taken on a tour around his new place at Pacific Pines. Not much to add, we had a great time, just family time. Max thought puppy's tantrum was particularly hilarious tonight, while Pup later desperately tried to convince us that because the bed was low enough for him to climb on, the 4 of us should share the bed. Um no bud.Læs mere

  • Seeya soon, Brad

    1. juni, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Max had a bit of a sleep in today, so we took advantage and stayed in bed. We were only going as far as Kingscliff, less than an hour down the road, so we wouldn't feel rushed to leave. We spent the morning catching up, having a cook up for breaky and giving Max a bath, it's been a while.Læs mere

  • A rainy Kingscliff

    1. juni, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We lined up our departure with Max's nap, it means a much shorter battle in the car. The street is very tight with lots of cars, and after nearly getting stuck last night when we pulled in, Ben reversed down the street while towing the camper. Not far to go, although we did get stuck in some traffic on the freeway thanks to a stack. It's still rainy so I called to change us to a cabin the other day, they happily moved us for no cost which was fantastic. Parking was a potential issue as there's only space for one vehicle and the visitor parking is often full, plus an awkward angle. Somehow, we ended up with the cabin at the back, which meant we had an extended driveway/parking space. It was tight, but perfect! We were very lucky, the other cabins parking spots were tiny and we wouldn't have been able to make it work. At check in, they also gave us a mixed bag of dog treats and a poop bag, it's the little things, hey. Max slept through his transition out of the car, so we all had some quiet time. Nothing much else tonight, we couldn't be bothered ducking down to the shops and were still full from the cook up, so we had noodles and snacks for dinner before bed.Læs mere

  • Fingal Head

    2. juni, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

A slowish morning today, which was nice. Once we eventually got moving, we headed to the Fingal Head lighthouse, which is just off Diamond Beach. Not a big walk, but a nice one through the bush, until I looked down about halfway there and saw the tail of what was 100% a snake slithering away, about 30cm from my foot. That put me on edge for the rest of the walk, mostly concerned for Pup, he'd be oblivious and wouldn't even notice. We got to the lighthouse, took some photos and looped around the path along the rocks. We thought it was odd that they didn't have a fence up around parts of the walk, but there was a lot of signage about upgrades coming soon. The walk back was stressful, especially when old mate the snake decided to show back up, luckily it had zero interest in us and was heading away. It was just so surprising considering the amount of people we passed in each direction. It definitely wasn't bothered, but I was, my heart was bloody racing.Læs mere

  • Lunch time

    2. juni, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Once back at the car, I calmed down and we headed into the main street of Kingscliff. We had already spotted Worst Burgers on the map and gave them a go, bloody good. Ben got the Stockholm Syndrome, with both chicken and beef, while I ordered the maple chicken and burger fries to share, verrry good feed. Max had a short snooze and woke up on our wander back to the car, giggling and chatting to Pup. Spotted a wedding ceremony being set up right near the car, Max was getting a bit loud, so thankfully it wasn't during the ceremony.Læs mere

  • Tropical Fruit World

    2. juni, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

We looped past Tropical Fruit World on the way back, they shut at 4pm so didn't have long, but we just wanted to suss it out. Went for a nice walk around the gardens and had a look in the shop. They've got lots of fantastic tours and spots to look at across their property, for next time! A pretty quiet night in, wraps for dinner and packing up ready for tomorrow.Læs mere

  • Back on the road

    3. juni, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Check out morning today, up and doing the usual bits and pieces. Max has been particularly needy and Pup has decided that its time to stomp around at 2am or 6am, pests. After a battle, we got the boys up and in the car, not long for them to go to sleep thank goodness. We took the coast road, rather than the highway to have a look at the towns. Kingscliff and the local suburbs are so nice! Definitely a great alternative to the Gold Coast with lots of shopping, swimming options and playgrounds, while only half an hour from ducking up to the attractions of Goldie. We'll definitely be back, possibly a flight into the Gold Coast and hiring a car would be the way to go. Slight issue with the GPS, after we got off the coast road, it sent us north instead of south, so more local siteseeing. We kept seeing lots of people with bikes, then we spotted the Northern Rivers Rail Trail signs. Similar idea to the Fernleigh track by the looks of it, but with more updated signage and information along the way. Mooball was a quirky little town we passed through, with a giant motorbike at the Moo Moo Roadhouse.Læs mere

  • The Farm - Byron Bay

    3. juni, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

We stopped at The Farm, just out of Byron Bay. We had a quick snack as it wasn't quite lunch time, but we figured we should have something, not knowing how max would go with his naps later since he's been pretty inconsistent. We shared a Portuguese tart, a chocolate filled doughnut, and a juice smoothie before going for a walk around the farm. Most of the animals were either surrounded by muddy paths, or were in the middle of each of their paddocks, pup was taking his time, not uncommon for him, but he just seemed a bit off this morning. We found some goats close to a fence that Max was very interested once he realised they were moving on their own. We kept wandering down to the macadamia orchard. The warning of snakes spooked me a little bit after yesterday, so we spun around and headed back. Pup was again taking his time, so I gave him a lift for a bit up the slight hill, while Ben and Max powered ahead, popping into the shop to see if there was anything we'd like to take home. Once Pup and I finally caught up, Ben took the boys to settle them in the car and to fix up the camper charger cord that had unknowingly dragged along the road from Kingscliff. I grabbed some bits and pieces from the shop, had to grab another Portuguese tart of course, as well as some of their local goods, some mustard, barbecue sauce, peanut brittle that kinda thing. It was a really lovely little shop.Læs mere

  • Stone and Wood Brewery

    3. juni, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Back in the car to head to the Stone and Wood Brewery. They had a very limited menu, although we were mostly going to try their beers. We got a paddle of 8 to try, they were pretty decent. The Dill Pickle beer was very pickly, shocking ha. It was weird, but I really enjoyed. The Lemon sour was also pretty good! We shared a chicken burger and some fries, not realising the burger already came with fries. Whoops. Pup was pretty unsettled and still seemed off, so I popped myself on the ground with him and he was much happier, he even had a little snooze.Læs mere

  • A quiet and lovely day in Evans Head

    4. juni, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Big sleep ins today, Max stirred for a feed at 7, the usual, then dozed back off, also the usual, but until after 10:30! We all took it very easy, no real plans today except to spend some time with Pop, and I'd booked pup a vet check in the afternoon. Although Pup had woken up seeming much more like himself thank goodness. He's had some gross eye boogers and seemed to flush something out this morning.
Pop came by around lunch, we just enjoyed each other's company, we're not sure who loved crabby more, Pop or Maxy.
Ben and Max wandered down to the Riverside Kiosk for a late lunch and strawberry milkshake before we squeezed in a short nap and Ben took Pup to the vet. They put dye through his eye, gave him a general check up, and some cream for his eye to take with us, but really, he'd come good this morning anyway, just needed that reassurance. Pop and Joy came around to our cabin for dinner, we ordered Chinese from the bowlo, always a great feed! Max was a bit of a ratbag getting to sleep, but finally got him down. Check out tomorrow.
