On my way to the airport

    7. mai 2022, Nigeria ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Left the house with a Bolt for the airport. Took the Eliozu road and arrive at the airport shortly before 8:30am. Check in was smooth and effortless. My luggage was 22kg and I was asked to pay 1,000 Naira for the the 2kg excess weight. Back screening scanner wasn't functional and all bags had to be opened and checked by the airport security. Boarding commenced early and we took off at 10:00amLes mer

  • Arrived Lagos

    7. mai 2022, Nigeria ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Landed in Lagos at 10:50am, flight was smooth and uneventful. A bus picked passengers from the aircraft doors to the terminal building.

Had a quick Brunch at Chicken Republic after the meal I hailed 2 rides on Bolt but they both cancelled after the App indicated they had arrived. It then occurred to me that the local airport taxi association was disrupting hailing rides from picking up passengers at the airport. I eventually picked up an airport cab from their official park to the hotel for 3,500

Hotel POS didn't work so I transfered the payment through my mobile bank app.

  • IITA

    8. mai 2022, Nigeria ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Arrived IITA about 11:20am. Security at the gate was tight, I had to show them the booking which they confirmed from the guest house and then fill a register with my details before being admitted into the campus. Check in at the reception was smooth and fast.Les mer

  • Shoprite

    8. mai 2022, Nigeria ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Visited shoprite ring road to buy a few things I will need for the week. Shoprite was a mad house. Never seen a store so crowded with kids running up and down. Had to ensure my face mask was well worn as everyone else in the store did wear one.

Spent about an hour on the queue, had to pay cash as POS.

Bolt cab was reluctant to take us to IITA complaining that he wouldn't see any fare back so I had to increase the fare to 3,000 instead of 2.100.

  • Exploring IITA

    9. mai 2022, Nigeria ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Alarm went off at 5:45 am but I was too lazy to get up so I slept for another 1hr before finally pulling myself off the bed to start my morning walk. It was also an opportunity to explore the grounds of IITA and to enjoy the amazingly soothing scenery of well manicured grass and well catered flowers. The campus is really beautiful. My main aim was to discover the lake which I did after a 25min walk from my flatlet. Apparently the lake was created by widening a section of an existing river. The river also serves as source of irrigation for the numerous farms in the premisis. I had to cut short my walk to catch the breakfast

After a quick breakfast, I decided to explore some more taking a route from the back of my flatlet, midway down I felt it will be a good opportunity to track it down to the lake using a different route from the one I used in the morning.

In total I walked 15,000 steps covering 10.55 kms in the process and burning 926 calories.

  • ISI

    10. mai 2022, Nigeria ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Visiting my alma mata was the highlight of today's tour. The security woman at the gate was extremely nice when she discovered I was an ex student from 1986, she instructed me to see the principal first to obtain permission to walkaround the school and take pictures. Noticed that the school now has lots of new buildings. Distances between buildings appeared to be shorter than when I was a student there. Took lots of pictures and videos.Les mer

  • Drive around UI

    10. mai 2022, Nigeria ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Drove round the university campus. First stop was Awba Dam which used to the campus main water supply source. The dam was looking unkempt with weeds around and in the lake and tall grasses all around.

Next stop was the Chapel of Ressurection which was my Dad's church. A new large Hall has been linked to the original chapel using up the greenery around the chapel

  • Bowers Tower

    10. mai 2022, Nigeria ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Bowers Tower is a colonial relic located at oke Are Hill at Igbo Agala in Ibadan. It was built in 1936 and named after Captain Robert Lister Bower the first resident and travelling commissioner of interior Yorubaland. It is 60 feet tall with an interior narrow spiral stairwell to the observation deck. Major buildings in Ibadan can be seen from the tower.

Getting to the tower required a bit of hill climbing as the road up wasn't motorable. At the top of the hill various white garment churches have acquired small pieces of land for spiritual purposes.

    Entrance fee was 200 Naira

  • Cocoa House

    10. mai 2022, Nigeria ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Visited famous 25 storey Cocoa House which was once the tallest build8ng in Nigeria. It was built by the government from cocoa proceeds. Contemplated taking the lift to the roof but later changed my mind as I had already had a birds eye view of Ibadan from the observation tower on Bowers TowerLes mer

The National Museum of Unity is the place to head to for a deep immersion in the history and culture of the Yoruba Nation. The well preserved artifacts tell a compelling story of the Yoruba people as well as other selected tribes across the country. There were exhibits on mask, cloth, clay pots, farming tools, masquerades etc. A tour guide takes you around narrating the history behind each artifact. This is a must visit for anyone visiting the ancient city of Ibadan. Entrance fee into the museum was 500 Naira.Les mer

  • Birthday

    11. mai 2022, Nigeria ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Started the day off with a 1hr walk around exploring a new route around IITA which took me to the fish pond. Spent some time looking at the various fish ponds. They were all covered in mucky water making it difficult to identify the fish inside them.

After a lovely breakfast we took a walk down to the lake packing a drink and doughnuts along. Had a lovely time sitting under a tree by the lake and enjoying the cool breeze under a tranquil environment.

A friend sent me a food tray which was delivered to me in the evening. Nicely packaged with assortment of sumptuous food, pastries, chocolates and drinks.

  • Leaving IITA

    13. mai 2022, Nigeria ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

I had arranged with the Bolt driver who brought me from the train station last Sunday to pick me at 6am, only for him to call in the morning saying he sent someone else because his car wouldn't start. I got suspicious and refused his alternative arrangement instead requesting a Bolt.

Left IITA at about 6:27am arriving at the train station at 6:43am. The ticket counter wasn't open as they start operating at 7:00am
