  • Worst trek of my life - altitude sick!

    December 14, 2019 in Peru ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

I never felt such a long time so bad during any sport activity like yesterday 😵: Went on a 14km trek up to Laguna 69 on around 4600m altitude. Thought I am already acclimatized as I have been on a short trek >5000m one day before. Big mistake!

I felt already a bit sick before and on the trek from km 4 on it all became worse 😲: Headache, nausea, no coordination (like drunk), very hard breath....thought I would never make it to the laguna 😞!

But I pushed through, which resulted in the end in 10km (or 5h) suffering. And as top of the cake, when I arrived @ the laguna, heavy rain hit in and stayed for the whole way back to the bus, got so soacking wet 😥.

But to put it positive: Learned to overcome my body by will, but though need to listen more to my body before next treks and take more care about proper acclimatization 😃.

  • Lima - surprisingly relaxed

    December 18, 2019 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Had real relaxed days in Lima with beach, party and lots of ceviche (raw fish, local favourite, can eat it every day and time 😝), but have to admit I stayed most of the time in Miraflores, the expact district. Other parts of the city are a bit different 😜.Read more

  • Rainbow Mountain - conquered

    December 23, 2019 in Peru ⋅ 🌧 2 °C

Arrived in the former capital of the Inca empire Cusco and hiked up to Montana Winikunka (so called Rainbow Mountain due to it's 7 different sediment colors, another one in the 5000+ club). Awesome views 😃!

This time I had no health issues, pure pleasure and met also two new fluffy friends - such a sweet couple 😄!

  • Amazonas jungle adventure

    December 26, 2019 in Peru ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Celebrated all Christmas days in the Amazonian jungle in a lodge next to Puerto Maldonado in Peru 🎅...felt so unreal in this environment (33 degrees, masses of mossies and every day a new visitor in my room 😜, e.g. spider, giant grasshopper).

Was a real adventure stay with canope bridges & zip lining 50m high in the trees, cayaking on Cayman filled rivers & night tours in the national park next to it. I tried fishing 1st time in my life and catched two Piranhas & not hurting myself 😁. Additionally, could spot apes, lizards, caymans, tarantulas, parrots, giant ants, sloth and many more.

At the beginning after city jungle Cusco high in the mountains, this environment seemed so completely different, like another world, nearly hostile....But after a few days I got into the groove, humans are so adaptable (felt like Arnold in Predator 😁)....only the moosies I could still not tolerate 😉. Will not be my last jungle visit in my life!

  • Jungle trekking to Machu Picchu

    December 31, 2019 in Peru ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Thought the Amazonian jungle was not enough 😜, so went after Christmas on a 4 day adventure trek through another jungle to famous Machu Picchu...biking, rafting, zip lining, all fun stuff included 😁...and with an awesome group like I had much more!

Though never received so many mosquito bites on one day like there ever in my life before, but no worries I am feeling good 😃!

  • Happy new year in Machu Picchu

    January 1, 2020 in Peru ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Started on new year's eve at 4:30am the climb from our small mountain village to world famous Inka site Machu Picchu (meaning big mountain in Quechua) and it's nearby mountain...no sleep due to hotel next to main party square, but highly motivated 😜

Climbed 3900 stairs and walked my feet off, but it paid off, this city is just incredible! Amazing views 😃!

And I finally did also make friends with Lamas, not only Alpacas!!!

  • Desert crushing into the ocean

    January 10, 2020 in Peru ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

Where the desert meets the sea - Paracas in Peru🐙🌵! Enjoyed some relaxing days at the beautiful beaches of the national parc, spotted the mysterious sand dune signs and went on a crazy boat ride (the driver was a real suicidal maniac 😵) to the nearby islands to spot seals & penguins. Glad I survived it just with soaked clothes!Read more

  • Final chapter: Atacama

    January 15, 2020 in Chile ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Last days on my trip and I wanted still to see the legendary Atacama desert in Chile: Was a good decision to take an extra flight here before I enter my flight back to Germany tomorrow 😃!

Geysirs, volcanoes, rainbow/moon and death valley were all quite impressive for me....so the final chapter is written!

Looking forward now meeting all of you back in Germany 😃...but how every good movie, there has to be an sequel, starting soon 😜
