    1. Arrival

    Aug 16–17, 2025 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Starting the 16.08.25 at the Airport Frankfurt with direction to the Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi, just to take a transfer flight to Singapur where we arrived the 17.08 in the morning at the Changi Airport. With a taxi, we arrived at our Hotel - the Habyt Cantonment.

Starting to discover the nearer surroundings, as our Hotel wasn't ready yet. Strolling through the city with China Town, the Boat Quai and Merlion Park. We walked to the Gardens by the Bay to watch the lightshow, however decided to eat someting at the Lau Pa Sat foodmarket. There, hell broke loose as it started raining - here, rains are heavy, intense and constant for hours ⛈️ - and we skipped the show. So, with the return to our hotel by the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), the afternoon ended sooner as planned. Now prepared with the weather, we took the decision to watch the lightshow the next possible night, when there is no rain.

  • 2. Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

    August 18, 2025 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Today we visited the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve in the north of the island - just a few kilometers from the border of Malaysia. Just as we arrived with the taxi, another storm was coming - and with that another hours of intense rain (Hit by the jetlag, we started our day later than planned...so, damn). However, the taxi took 20 minutes to get there (by MRT would have been 1 hour), so returning was no option.
The Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is a complex of mangroves, rivers and lakes, so the rain was ideal for the atmosphere (but not for sensitive Europeans).

We observed and watched some typical animals of the region as birds, mudskippers or reptiles (sadly, no crocodiles 😪) for the next few hours.

When we wanted to return to the center of Singapore - no taxi was coming. So we had to take the bus to the next MRT-station and decided to stopp at the Orchard road.

After a traditional meal, we continued our way down this famous shopping road to the Gardens by the Bay again - where we finally enjoyed the lightshow.

Busy shedule today! Being back in the Gardens by the Bay with visits of the Cloud Forest (which inhabits a Jurassic World expo for the moment 🦖), Flower Dome, Floral Fantasy, OCBC Skyway and the Supertree Grove. As it started raining, we decided to visit the ArtScience Museum before we had our timeslot at the observation deck of the Marina Bay Sands. To end the evening, we enjoyed cocktails, a meal at the Boat Quay and the Marina Bay lightshow.Read more

  • 4. Central Catchment Nature Reserve

    August 20, 2025 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Another day reserved for Wildlife: we visited the Central Catchment Nature Reserve in the heart of Singapore. It's the green center of the country, home for a lot of rare jungle species.

We started our +- 18 km tour at the Windsor Nature Park, crossing on our way the TreeTop Walk, Jelutong Tower, some boardwalks and the MacRitchie Reservoir, before arriving back at our starting point. Among others, one wildlife highlight were the long-tailed macaques.

Returning to the hotel and after a powernap, we were going out to eat in Little India

  • 5. Mandai Wildlife Reserve

    August 21, 2025 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Return to the Great Catchment Nature Reserve, but this time with the goal to visit the Mandai Wildlife Reserve - a complex of 5 zoos.
We chose to visit more unusual zoos:

River Wonders, a zoo focused more or less on fresh water animals. They had mostly aquariums with freshwater fishes all around the world, but also mammals like Manatees, Pandas and Anteaters. There even was a boat tour where you could observe animals from the amazonian river.

Night Safari, the world's only nocturnal zoo. This night zoo opens at 7 p.m. and has the focus on showing mostly nocturnal animals. The animals are made visible by lighting that resembles moonlight. Although it is brighter than full moonlight by a few orders of magnitude, it is dim enough not to disturb nocturnal and crepuscular animals. With a tram, you could visit even another part of the zoo.
A real unique experience, as you not just visit a zoo by night, you are in the middle of the rainforest, too.

Between the two zoos, we did a walk at the Mandai boardwalk.

  • 6. Sightseeing Tour

    August 22, 2025 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 33 °C

With only 730 km², Singapore is even smaller than the Oesling in Luxembourg (830 km²). However there are 6 Mio. people living and there exist around 45.000 different animal and plant species - so a lot to discover.
This became even clearer to us as we enjoyed the view from the Pinnacle Sky Garden and its observation deck on the 50th floor.

As there were corners, that we had not seen yet, we decided to take the BigBus Hop-on Hop-off yellow and red tour to discover more of the city. With a walking and eating stop at the Botanical Garden, we just wanted to relax for the rest of the day. After some cold beers at the Boat Quay, we headed back to the Lau Pa Sat foodmarket to enjoy some asiatic meals such as "the best satay".

Ending the day with a beer at the rooftop bar Level33, which houses the highest microbrewery in a building and impresses with a breathtaking view on the Marina Bay.

  • 7. Changi Airport

    August 23, 2025 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

The day started with a bad news: ou flight was retimed for a departure two hours later. And this means, that we will miss our transit flight to Frankfurt. What does this mean? We don't know yet...and as we can't change it, we tried to do the best of it.

So we enjoyed our last day in Singapore at the Changi Airport, mostly famous for the "Jewel" and its indoor waterfall.

  • 8. Additional day in Abu Dhabi 🇦🇪

    Aug 24–25, 2025 in the United Arab Emirates ⋅ ☀️ 38 °C

As feared - we missed our transfer flight to Frankfurt and had to stay in Abu Dhabi. Arriving in the night at the airport, there were discussions at the Etihad Service desk. Than an 1 gour ride to our hotel, where we had again discussions at the reception desk.

Luckily, our hotel, the Grand Millennium Al Wahda was very nice. As everything was a bit spontanious, we couldn't plan anything and with 40°C, there was no motivation to do something - and yes, we needed sleep after the delay-chaos. So we visited the Al Wahda Mall to buy tooth pasta (our baggage was kept at the airport), the neighbourhood in the night and a pub before heading back to the airport.

We arrived finally on the 25th in Franfurt.
