• Pyramid Campgroud Site 7

    2024年7月27日〜29日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Arrive and find our booking site 7, we take our time in working out how we want to position on it as it feels to us if we did the straight back in we'd have the built in fire pit on the wrong side of our van! We work it out to suit us - just means we'll unhitch the ute, as we're here for 2 nights not a worry. Once set up (awning out etc) we have our lunch, cold meat sandwiches for Roger, avocado, relish, ham, tomato and cheese open toasties for me. Next we get ourselves sorted to go walk in the Gorge, I get prepared to swim (bathers on, towel) Rog feels it's too cold so he doesn't. Nice moderately steep (lots of steps) walk to get into the Gorge- just stunning. Had met people who were coming up who said it was worth having a swim.....so we did (Roger in his jocks). Just beautiful (yes 'bracingly' cold - but fine once you settle to it). Stay in the water for 1/2 hour or so, before drying off and heading back up to our camp - nice workout! We get changed, I decide to do the other designated walk, 'the rim walk' which takes approx. 45 minutes. Roger happy to stay at camp in the hammock reading a crime book. When I get back, we decide it's time for drinks and nibbles - so dip, pickles, cheese and biscuits with gin & soda.
Relaxing enjoying the tranquillity, have had enough to eat so decide to have a light tea. Roger eats some more leftover roast, then we both have fresh pears with yoghurt. In the evening/dark we go for a wander about to see what we can find in the way of nocturnal animals - no luck seeing any Rufous Bettong (the largest of the native rat-kangaroos - adults 40cm high) tonight. Back to camp for our cuppa and some chocolate (Cadbury Black Forrest). Nice early night to bed to read for a while.
Sunday morning, very relaxed - get up around 8am, have our usual separate breakfast choices (yes porridge for me!). Then we both go and do the rim walk. Get back, I head on to the Pyramid lookout to see if I can get mobile service, Roger stays at camp to relax, read in the hammock. I get back, relax too. Lunch, again our usual, Roger cold meat and salad sandwich and I have another couple of open toasties and we finish off the block of Cadbury choc. We decide to continue to relax and read our books until 2pm. Then we'll go on a walk back into the Gorge. This we did, just a wonderful calm, mild afternoon for it. Once we get back, enjoy a drink, then I have a shower in our caravan while Roger prepares our tea. Sausage casserole made up with his plum sauce mixture with fresh vegetables and some broad beans lol. I make up a date damper for our dessert. A lovely meal around the camp fire on a perfect evening. Calm and mild. Next tidy up, I do dishes while Roger has his shower. Now time to relax before reading in bed and bedtime.
Monday morning, awake around 7am, but leisurely start - no rush as it's move on day, and our day's destination isn't far. Have our breakfast, porridge, tidy up and are underway by 9am. Heading to Richmond and we'll call through Hughenden first.
