• Bitter Springs Cabins&Camping Mataranka

    24–25 aug. 2024, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

Arrived and booked in, choosing a powered site that we get shown to. Site 72, Rog does a great job getting our van parked and we happily settle in. 1st priority is to get into our bathers and sunscreened up, so we can go try out Bitter Springs Thermal pool. It's beside the caravan park so it's a nice stroll to go try it out. Very scenic, tropical landscape, arrive at the pool (river like lagoon) to find it's very popular today, quite a crowd. You get in the water via steps and ladder to float with the current, I guess 200m, to another set of steps to get out and follow a path back to do it again (as many times as you like). The water is lovely and clear and quite warm (so with today's heat we didn't find it very refreshing). While floating down you did have to watch out for tree branches etc. that you could bump into. People were using noodles to float with - seemed to help stay away from 'snags'. So the noodles looked like a great idea to me! We did try to buy some noodles at reception in caravan park - but all sold out. We do 2 'laps' and decide we'd had enough - ready to go back to camp for cool down drinks. Which we did! Afternoon relaxing at camp, then have our showers before early tea. Roger cooks up steak and vegetables. We enjoy this, then tidy up and get organised to drive into Mataranka for 7pm show of Nathan Grigg's whip cracking.
This goes for a good hour, then we come back to relax and get prepared to leave early tomorrow for the tours we have booked. Bedtime.
Up early for us on a Sunday morning, 6.30am to be ready to leave this park by 7.30am as we need to make the Cutta Cutta Caves for our 9am tour. So we have our breakfast (usual) and get the caravan packed up ready to go. We get away on time. Bye bye to this lovely spot....onwards to the next.
