• Old Telegraph Station Campground

    1月29日〜30日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Arrive at Eucla and follow Wiki Camp instructions to take the road out behind the Roadhouse and Caravan Park to get to this campground. We, naturally, stick to the camping area suitable for us with our caravan. As we're here so early - we happily select our camping spot - Roger backs us into a camp beside the sand dunes, nice and private with a lovely (atm) sea breeze.
Make our own lunches, Roger having ham and salad sandwiches, and I have 2 open toasties made the same as yesterday's.
Roger does some 'housekeeping' with our caravan toilet- it has had a little 'hiccup' with its cassette opening lever (jams and doesn't work smoothly) - all sorted.
Now to relax and read. Mid afternoon we decide to go for a walk and check out the old derelict Telegraph Station - stopped being in use 1962 - certainly being reclaimed by the sand dunes. Continue our walk to the nearby beach and find the old Jetty that was once in use - no longer, now just a good spot for fisherman apparently. Return to our camp and relax again. We're happy reading our books. Tea tonight, Rog cooks up the mince for tacos, while also making his sausage surprise casserole to use up our vegetables (before crossing into SA tomorrow) which we can have tomorrow. After having tacos we have some jersey lollies - that'll do! Roger has his shower, I do the dishes - noticing a lovely sunset this evening - before the usual relax and bed.
30/01/25 Thursday. I get up just before 6am to go for a run - go along the road we came in on (saves me getting lost) - which works out nicely as my turnaround point gives me a lovely view. There is also a memorial to some 'lost' fisherman to check out - beautiful. I get back to our camp 7.15am, Roger has my porridge ready. Have my breakfast, then a shower. Now we get packed up to leave - underway at around 8.30am.
