Another wonderful coastline outlook. It's while we're walking back along the path to return to our ute, that we get to see a reasonably large black snake cross the path in front of us. Roger was disappointed that he didn't have the chance to get a photo.
Then once we got driving from here, heading into Windy Harbour, we saw another snake, similar size but brown (lighter in colour) cross the road in front of us. Roger was able to stop and get a photo of this one.

Call in here to find it's a fisherman's village with a caravan park. There is only a small general store catering for all.
We park and go for a walk to the swimming beach. Then return and get the picnic food Roger has packed and sit in the park and have our lunch. Cheese and Vegemite sandwiches, apples, Anzac biscuits and a rumball.
Before we leave, we drive amongst the residences - fishing shacks, there are no bitumen streets here!. Though while having a walk about near the shop earlier, I saw a poster with a house for sale here - asking price $400K.

Arrive here and go straight to the Visitor Centre. Get a local map and a good run down from lovely tourist centre staff member on things we can do today.
On our way here Roger had intended to take us on another way to Walpole that would have taken us to a couple of points of interest - but not to be today, as this road was closed for burning off.En savoir plus

  • Valley of The Giants Tree Top Walk

    8 janvier, Australie ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Come through Nornalup to get to this attraction. We arrive and struggle to get a park close, end up not too bad with our park. With school holidays - this place is a popular spot. We get our tickets to do the tree Top Walk $21 each. We have a beaut time with this - it is incredible to be up high in amongst these amazing trees, swaying in the walking frames. We also do the ground walk in amongst the big tingle trees - they are fantastic. We realise we were lucky we arrived when we did - it's got so much busier and there is a long queue to get tickets. We've had a leisurely look around, I just duck in the gift shop and get my memento hatpin, then we're happy to go.En savoir plus

Our picnic spot for our lunch today - chosen as we drive about this area. We set ourselves up nicely to have our picnic lunch and then realise we've forgotten cutlery - so not able to make up our sandwiches (can't slice our cheese and tomato etc). Oh well, we eat some cold pork and an apple each. Roger has a couple of Anzac biscuits.
After we leave here, we go into the shopping area in Walpole, refuel the ute and then park to go to the Cafe where we buy some lunch - pie for Roger, toasted chicken foccicia for me. Then we do a small grocery shop, before heading off to check out some more places as we head back towards our camping spot.

  • Peaceful Bay Caravan Park

    9–10 janv., Australie ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We are able to move onto our campsite this morning. We've been allocated site F, so we go suss it out without bringing in the caravan just yet. Glad we did this, as it took abit of working out how the site 'works'. Works out well - Roger could drive the caravan through to park in position, and he decides as we're here just for the 1 night, to leave the ute hitched. We set ourselves up, then have our lunch. Leftover taco mince on toast for me, and taco mince in fresh sandwiches for Roger. We then finish off the rockyroad and have some fresh fruit.
We decide to get into our bathers and head to the beach - across the road about 50mts away.
We come back about 2.30pm. We now relax outside our van - reading. I enjoy watching the little wrens flitting about our camp and surrounds. Roger goes and has a shower, then we both go for a walk around this caravan park. It's quite large for this small community, and the sites are very casual - I'd need help to know each site's boundaries! Nice amenities (no oven in the camp kitchen though) and a children's playground.
We have decided to order the Peaceful Bay Fish & Chips for our tea tonight - you have to preorder - so we do, Roger having Snapper and chips $27 and I'm having squid and chips $16. We're told they'll be ready to pick up at 6.40pm. I go have my shower, then Roger and I go for a walk in Peaceful Bay streets, checking out the residences - plenty of holiday shacks for sure. Time our return to collect our tea - we sit at the outdoor tables near the cafe and enjoy every mouthful of it - delicious. Head back to our camp. Relax, then tidy up. Just writing this up and then I'll go to bed like Rog.
End up watching 'Red One' on Prime - not bad Christmas movie.
10/01/25 Friday. Wake up and Roger wishes me a very happy birthday - off to a good start for sure! I get up and go for a walk - using the All Trails App, and have chosen to walk The Gap Track, Peaceful Bay which states a 7+km loop walk - easy - allow 1.5hrs. Maybe I should have realised by the time allowed that it wouldn't be quite as easy as I thought! Anyway turns out to be a fair amount of walking in soft sand - which I find quite a workout - especially as I took no water with me (normally an easy 7km early in the morning I can do without it - just have a decent drink before I go which I did). Luckily for me I got a phonecall from Robert when I was about half way - he rang for my birthday - he 'copped my winge' about my walk - and I felt so happy that he rang I settled into the walk and really enjoyed it after that. I left at about 6.15am and got back just after 8am - it was a decent morning walk. Rog has kindly got porridge ready - waiting for us to eat together ❤️ After this lovely breakfast I decide to go for a quick swim before I have a shower. The water was great once I was in - then I wanted to stay, but kept it quick as I know Roger's ready for us to get going. Go back to camp, shower and get organised to leave - we head off about 9.30am

    9 janvier, Australie ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Walk to this beach - it is delightful! Can see why this is a great spot for families and anyone who wants a relaxing seaside holiday. Even though I didn't feel it was a warm enough day for me to go in for a swim - we did, and I'm so glad I didn't 'chicken out'. Roger had a beaut time snorkelling - while I happily bobbed about with my pool noodle.
Once we'd had enough of being in the water, we went for a lovely stroll - both ways along the beach - before returning to our camp.

  • Albany Equestrian Centre

    10–11 janv., Australie ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

We drive from Peaceful Bay straight to Albany Equestrian Centre, during our drive here I receive a whatsapp call from Tegan - oh my heart is happy, both my 'kids' have called me for my birthday. This is where we'll be camping tonight, and Roger is keen to park and unhitch the caravan so we can drive about easily to check out Albany. I'm abit concerned we're arriving at our camp spot too early - but turns out not to be a worry. Tom Curtain and his entourage are already here setting up for their show tonight, and their is some sort of horsey happening as there are riders and their horses about. Roger goes and finds an organiser - and we're told where we can set up well out of the way. Our spot turns out to be on the edge of where the car parking happens later for the show. We set up where indicated, unhitch and go for a drive into Albany.
We return here about 4pm. I relax and respond to birthday messages on my phone. I get a lovely birthday call from Jenny. Roger and I (Roger has got our chairs and drinks ready to go for both of us) walk over to where tonight's Tom Curtain show is being held - get our tickets scanned in for entry - we're in plenty of time for 5.30pm start. I have the time to return to our caravan to put my mobile on charge (almost flat - I miss a call from Leigh later) and I can purchase some sausages the Pony Club are selling on the way back to our seating.
We enjoy the evening - Tom Curtain and his support acts put on a wonderful family show. Tom a very talented man with his horses, dogs and goats - glad this worked out for my birthday! Show finishes just after 9pm and we happily stroll on back to our caravan. Have a cuppa and some Taffy treats. Roger has his shower and we're both happy to get to bed.
11/01/25 Saturday. Roger's up first around 6.30am, I'm abit slower...closer to 7am. We leisurely have breakfast. We watch as Tom Curtain and his tour partners head off nice and early - I think their next performance is in Esperance. We get organised to go out for the day - we're leaving the caravan here to pick up later. Roger makes up some cheese and vegemite sandwiches to take with us. We leave around 8.30am.
We return and collect the caravan about 3pm.
Then head to the closest shopping centre to where our Farmstay for tonight is, to get a few needed items.

Come here so I can have some bubbles and cake! The lady at the Tourist Centre felt this place could suit.... Well looking at the menu and having had a quick peak inside, it's not really where I'm going to get a piece of cake!
Lovely place though, so decide we'll go for the bubbles and dessert (they only offer 1!).
Roger and I have a glass of local Procesco and a sticky date pudding each. Hit the spot - my birthday treat.
While here we've been checking our tourist 'flexi pass' and decided to try for the wine tasting place this afternoon...I ring, and can book us in for 2pm today.
