  • Colca Canyon 2 day hike

Another day starting (way too early) at 2.30am. 😅🫠 got picked up at 3am for the Colca Canyon 2 day trekking. The Colca Canyon with a depth of about 1000 – 2000 m is one of the deepest canyons in the world. Its length is about 70 kilometres.

After 3 hours of drive and a nice breakfast, we arrived at the Cruz del Condor to watch..Condors. We were super lucky as we saw a bunch of these majestic creatures and apparently, the tourguide hasn't seen them for the last 5 weeks.

From the town of Cabanaconde located at 3,287 meters above sea level, we started our trek through the canyon. We descended around 1000m for about 3 hours towards the town of San Juan de Chuccho where we had lunch. Afterwards, we continued our trek to the Oasis of Sangalle for about 3 hours. This part for me personally was the worst part of the whole trek as the sun was very strong and I barely slept the last night. I felt like the next day - which is supposed to be the hard part - I would not survive. 😅😵

We all went to bed at 8pm, as the next day started at 4am. 3h of ascent was awaiting me. Being scared would have been an understatement 😄 but at least I had around 7h of sleep and I was determined to make it to the top.

As it was super early on the morning and the sun was not hitting this side of the canyon, the temperatur was perfect for hiking up. I honestly enjoyed the hike a lot and it was not even as hard as I thought it was. Guess I do have some proper Swiss hiking DNA in me 😄 also, the little fluff dog that accompanied me troughout the whole hike was the loveliest thing ever 🖤

  • Ica & Huacachina

Took the nightbus to Ica straight after the colca canyon hike to relax there for 2 days. Ica lies on the border of the Atacama desert and has one of the driest climates in the world, with only around 1 centimetre of rainfall for the whole year.

Just next to Ica lies Huacachina, a village built around a small oasis and surrounded by sand dunes. The second day I went there to do a buggy tour through the dunes and to enjoy some sandboarding.

  • Leticia

We arrived with the boat at the small harbor of Leticia around noon.
As we needed to go to the immigration office first and we both literally had 0 money left we had to walk to the office located at the airport with all our baggage in the pouring rain. 🌧🥾 Nevertheless, the charme of Leticia instantly captivated me.

Once we arrive at the hostel, all the hassle was worth the while. I literally arrived in my dream accommodation, a tiny oasis with lots of plants, cute cats and lovely hosts. The place is called Nomada hostel and is run by a indigenous family with a heavy background story but the biggest heart. The mother and youngest son are both deaf and communicate with their own sign language. The other two brothers only learned Spanish after moving from their tribe in the Amazon to Leticia.

I spent 4 amazing days there and fell in love with the Amazonas and the kind people🤍🥭🌴🦜

  • Isla de los Micos & Puerto Nariño

On the last day in Leticia I joined a guided day tour to Puerto Nariño as to explore the surrounding places, learn a bit more about the culture of the indigenous people and to hopefully see pink Dolphins 🐬💗 The first stop was at the Peruvian site at Puerto Alegria where we learned about the tribe Cocama. Afterwards we stopped at Isla de los Micos (Monkey Island) which turned out to be my highlight🐒
After stopping at another place at the colombian site called Macedinio, we arrived at Puerto Nariño. It's a town with about 6'000 residents, most of which are indigenous (Ticuna tribe) and its specificity is that it is entirely pedestrian.
At the end of the trip we stopped to see Pink Dolphins, which we did 😍

  • Medellín

It was time to say goodbye to the Amazon and take the flight to Medellín 🇨🇴 We stayed at Laureles destrict, a cute neighborhood with lots of restaurants and bars. The next day Mikel and I discovered Comuna 13 together with a common friend we met in Sucre. On the second and our last day together, we went to the botanical garden, checked out plaza botero and ended up at a christmas market called alumbrado del rio.

    Comuna 13:
The neighborhood consists of many graffities, street art performances, bright colors and an energetic environment, contrasting its dark past. Comuna 13 suffered for years from violence from Narcos, military operations, and the presence of guerillas and paramilitaries. Fights between rival groups would make the neighborhood feel like a war zone. Pablo Escobar had control of the neighborhood in the 80s. He recruited with the Medellín Cartel with the purpose of making money from the cocaine trade.

  • Guatapé

Since many people recommended me to visit Guatapé, I stayed one day longer in Medellín and booked a day tour to visit the town, located 2h outside the city.

Peñón de Guatapé is a rock formation that borders a lake. It formed along the Antioquia Rock Base (batolito de antioquia), 70 million years ago. With two-thirds of its height below ground, the exposed vertical face is over 200 meters high and visible from throughout the surrounding countryside. A staircase with more than 708 steps is built into one side of the rock, allowing visitors to climb up and enjoy the astonishing view.

  • Santa Marta

I finally arrived at the beach in Colombia! 😍🌞 Today I took the plane to Santa Marta as to spend my last week at the beach 🥹🦭 The first day I stayed in the town and then the following day I moved to a jungle hostel close to the Tayrona Park. The hostel was definitely one of my favourites during my whole journey.
