Set off from Bowood and headed towards Laycock, where they filmed Downton, Harry Potter and others. Lovely village, mainly owned by the National Trust. Stu thought it had been built as a film set -Weiterlesen
On my way back to Bowood, and I stopped to take pictures of the white horse (and the village sign for Crompton Bassett)
I then went off to see the Avenue, which runs from Avebury towards the long barrow. It's pretty amazing to drive down a country road and to suddenly see all these standing stones in a field. FromWeiterlesen
Then off to the Sanctuary. The building which they think was here was about 12 foot tall and so would have been seen from the nearby long barrow. There were also about 6 round barrows here too.
So, made my way up the hill to the long barrow. What an amazing place! To think, it's been there over 5,500 years ( well before I was born!). Its been excavated, and opened so that we can look inside.Weiterlesen
Got here around 10:30, after a trip round a lovely new Tecso in Calne (and a few wrong turns!). Stu had his bacon butty and met up with other investors to enjoy a round of golf on a lovely, clear, butWeiterlesen
Managed to get as far as the hill, but decided to do the long Barrow tomorrow.
Somewhere I've wanted to come forever! And even Stu was surprised at how large some of the stones are. Very accessible, unlike Stonehenge, you can walk around and amongst the stones as well as alongWeiterlesen
Stopped to grab some breakfast in this lovely village. Fabulous bakery, where Stu enjoyed a steak pasties. He keeps going on about it, so it must have been good!!
