    Athens

    30. september 2025, Hellas ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

    Today was a big day of walking and exploring. Our morning started going straight to the Acropolis. We were amazed at how many people were there. It was like a human traffic jam walking upto the top of the Acropolis. Which in itself was ok as it allowed us to get our breathe back 😊
    The pathway up is very slippery as most of the way you’re walking on marble so you really have to watch every step.

    The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens, Greece, and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance, the most famous being the Parthenon.
    We then moved onto Mars Hill where Paul stood and preached to the people of Athens about all the gods they worshipped but they needed to worship the One God.
    We then had a free afternoon so I had a wonderful time with Fi having lunch and wandering around the shops and even came across their Flea Markets.    Les mer

    Athens

    Spent the day exploring Palka and Monasstiraki areas. We loved just wandering around drinking the sights and sounds.
    While we were there Air Raids siren sounded 2 - 3 times ! Scared the life out of me! It was a practice run which they do the 1st October every year.
    We went to the roof top bar next to our hotel and celebrated with Lee and Sandy the arrival of their newest grand child which was born this morning. While we were sitting back relaxing another alarm this time fire evacuation of the hotel which thankfully was a false alarm- was not looking forward to walking down 9 flights of stairs.

    Monastiraki Flea Market is a jumble of shops selling artisanal soaps, handmade sandals and souvenir T-shirts. The surrounding streets are crammed with traditional tavernas and restaurants, many with Acropolis views.    Les mer

    Crete

    Very early start today!!
    Luggage packed and in the bus by 4am. Flying to Crete where we’ll stay the next 3 nights.

    According to Titus 1:5, Paul left Titus in Crete that he “might straighten out what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town.” The only other writing in the New Testament that mentions Crete is the book of Acts. Among the people present in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost were Cretans (Acts 2:11).

    Knossos is a Bronze Age archaeological site in Crete. The site was a major centre of the Minoan civilization and is known for its association with the Greek myth of Theseus and the minotaur. They start digging the site 1900 and are still doing it today. The palace covers a huge area.    Les mer

    Krasi and Panagai Kara - day 2 Crete

    After enjoying a wonderful night and beautiful breakfast at our resort we made our way up the mountains to our first stop a quaint little village set on the mountain side called Krasi. It was so lovely walking on the cobbled streets gazing at the quaint little home and shops.
    Could have spent more time there but we had to push on. Climbing further up to the next mountain we made our way to a Nuns Monastery Panagai Kara. We weren’t allowed to take photos inside their church but honestly the location it was set in was so stunning I doubt anything man made could better it!!!
    After lunch we went to an Olive Oil manufacturing business and I was so intrigued on what the process is. There is absolutely no waste once the oil is extracted from the olives.
    From there is was time to make our way back to the resort for an afternoon of relaxing with all our beautiful friends. Going to miss these lovely people when we return home.    Les mer

    Day 3 - Fair Havens

    5. oktober 2025, Hellas ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

    Today was so relaxing driving through the beautiful mountains and countryside of Crete.

    Acts 27 describes Paul's journey, as a prisoner, from Caesarea in Palestine to Rome. Paul, in the custody of a centurion, sailed W from Cnidus on an Alexandrian grain ship. the weather forced them to sail on the S side of Crete. They passed Cape Salmone … and took refuge at Fair Havens.
    We made our way to the beach of Fair Havens where Paul was ship wrecked and he stayed 15 days.
    We moved onto Zafiria beach and market place where we spent 2 hours relaxing and shopping.
    After dinner we had our last MM together. Our group will slowly dissolve with some flying back to Australia tomorrow and some moving onto their next part of their holidays. 24 of us are going to Santorini.    Les mer

    Santorini

    Another early start this morning. On the bus by 6:30am to travel to the ferry. We took this opportunity to say goodbye to some new and old friends.
    It’s amazing the number of tourist that were going to Santorini. Our ferry ride lasted 1 1/2 hours. From there we transferred into mini buses and made our way to our accommodation for the next 3 nights. As Santorini is built on a hillside there are hundreds of steps to navigate every time we leave our apartment.
    Santorini is hugely expensive so we are very careful where we eat. The bakery has been the most economical so far. An example of costs 250ml Coke €7 = $14aud
    Bottles water is also expensive and you can’t drink the water here.
    Watched the sunset from our balcony with Geoff and Jill Davis and then went down and bought dinner from the street food area.    Les mer

    Santorini Day 2

    Decided to have a stop and relax day today. We explored a lot of little ally ways and so many sold the same stuff as the next stall. Quite a few jewellery stores to window shop as well.
    Our favourite place to buy lunch has produced the goods once more we bought a 1.5 ltr water for €1.10 - best price we’ve found so far on Santorini.
    There was no magnificent sunset tonight as the rain came in. Think we’ll spend a quiet night in our room as the stairs will be treacherous with the rain.    Les mer

    Oia - Santorini Day 3

    7. oktober 2025, Hellas ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

    A last minute bus trip organised by Leah Crawford to Oia. Andrew decided not to go so I joined the group and throughly enjoyed the day
    We stopped at Oia and went immediately to the Caldera View. Once again we needed to jostle with other tourists to take photos. The vantage point is quintessentially what everyone thinks of when thinking of Greece. Next stop was Megalochori. A beautiful village that you walk the length of through it. So many photo opportunities for our group to take group and couples photos.
    Back on board the bus for a short drive to The Three Bells. Stunning views overlooking Santorini- again more photos taken.
    As it was our last night together we all had dinner together. The restaurant sits on the side of the mountain and had no walls to stop the wind. It was freezing- we needed snow gear it was that cold. The waiters decided to move us downstairs where we had a measure of protection from the wind but not everyone was protect. Then it started to rain. What a night. Lots of laughter and frivolity. Was truely sad to begin saying goodbye to the ones leaving early the next morning. We all feel so blessed to have had the privilege of sharing this wonderful journey together.    Les mer

    Milos - road trip

    What a beautiful day we had today. We ended up hiring a car for the day and shared it with Wayne and Jenniene
    The more adventurous hired 4 wheel drive buggies - we were very glad of the car!
    Our itinerary for the day was let’s GO!!! Andrew was elected to drivie around Milos The old roads winding through narrow villages on the left hand side of the road was an experience not mention roundabouts.

    A little village right on the lakeside with multicoloured homes in a row was a perfect place to take more photos.

    We made our way to Plaka for lunch. It was here that Brendan had told us of a place called Utopia Cafe. So we found it and decided to come back when it opened at 5 pm

    We explored more beaches which were just beautiful. Some so tucked away so that you’d be hard pressed to find them
    if you didn’t know about them.
    We made our way back to Utopia Cafe. Secured the best vantage point over looking the islands and sea. Watched to sun set over the sea … just breathtaking- stunning!!! Everyone clapped when the sun dipped below the horizon. Best day full stop 🥰🥰🥰🥰    Les mer

    Milos to Athens

    10. oktober 2025, Hellas ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

    Sadly the time has come to begin the long trek home😢
    Woke up to our final breakfast with our group and began saying our goodbyes. They were again hiring vechiles continuing exploring the island of Milos.
    Re packed our bags and headed out to wander around the little village with Lee and Sandy. Found a very lovely necklace that matched perfectly with my cheap Greek bracelet. It was €2,000 / $4,000 ! Needless to say I didn’t get it 🤣
    We then headed to a tavern recommended by Brendan for lunch- it was so good. Across the road beside the sea was an area of daybeds which we could have hired for €30 /$60 for 2 or seat at a bar for free - we did the later.
    Our group started filtering back into the hotel while we waited the time to go to the ferry. We got to say goodbye once again😢
    Our ferry stopped at 3 islands on the way to Athens. We finally arrived at our apartment 10pm - it is so beautiful chandeliers in every room. The building next door is abandoned such a contrast!    Les mer

    Last day in Athens

    Last few hours in Athens before the long trek home.
    After a beautiful breakfast we stumbled across the fish and meat markets. So many different kinds of fish and shellfish but it all had a distinct smell so we moved quickly on.
    We decided to do a hop on hop off bus day and get a look at the beaches.
    We bought the tickets opposite Hadrians Arch so we crossed over to have a good look. It is so impressive and if we looked through it you get a great view of the Acropolis. The bus ride was pretty unremarkable- mainly heard about where the rich and famous live and where’s a good place for shopping.
    Back to our apartment building to collect our bags and head to the airport.    Les mer
