    Arrive in UK

    After 24 hours of flying finally landed at Manchester airport where Yvette was waiting for me 💕💕💕💕
    Now safely at her new home and having a Power Nap before the Yvette’s kids arrive for Thomas’s birthday dinner tonight.
    Went for a walk with Thermos in hand and spent time drinking in the view literally a 5 minute walk from Yvette’s home.    Read more

    Shopping trips, IKEA projects & catchups

    The last 2 days have been full of shopping for all sorts of things to get Yvette’s home functional. We have a huge list of things that need either fixing or replacing.
    Michelle’s boyfriend’s mother Heather spent today with us helping do all sorts of things and doing a dump run as well. Such a beautiful lady. We rewarded ourselves with lunch out.Read more

    Memorial meeting Harrogate

    It was so special meeting with the small group of brethren and sisters at Harrogate again after 2 years. They wrapped their arms around Yvette when she desperately needed their love and support.
    We then meet up with Aunty Nora and took her out for afternoon tea. She is so special to us both and we just love and adore her. She has her health issues but seemed to be coping ok today.Read more

    Day trip to Northallerton

    Yvette and I had a great day exploring the area around Northallerton. It has beautiful buildings lining the mile long streets - just beautiful architecture. In the summer the flowers in hanging baskets must have been a gorgeous range of colours.Read more

    Second Sunday at Harrogate.
    Was so lovely meeting Bro and Sister. Dan and Lynda Short from Canada. They were visiting their daughter Jessica and her husband Luke Brown. Little Malachi was super cute and very good just slept through the meeting.Read more

    Studley Park

    We had a beautiful day out and about. Firstly we were invited to an elderly brothers home for lunch. What a great lunch he had prepared. Geoff is 82 years old and is so active and still entertains a lot. I first met him in his home ecclesia in Scotland. He is obsessed with miniature trains and has quite a collection.
    On our drive back to Yvette’s we called into an estate called Studley Park where the deer roam free.    Read more

    Tates Garden Centre

    Steven and Michelle took the day off work to spend the day with me 💜
    We went to a garden centre in Ripon which has a magnificent restaurant within the garden centre.
    Displayed at the entrance was a tank covered in knitted and crocheted pieces all over it. They even had the soldier statue covered with knitting- was quite cool.Read more

    Knaresborough

    Four days ago my right eye started to hurt- painful to touch. It felt like I’d poked my eye with something. Anyway 24 hours later my eye became bloodshot and then the pain started. So yesterday morning I went to the local doctors surgery and they said as I wasn’t registered with them they couldn’t/wouldn’t be able to see me. Gave me a national phone number for Eye Services to ring. I rang them and the same story - as I’m not registered at a medical practice they couldn’t help me and suggested that I go to an optometrist. I did that and to be honest wasn’t very impressed with them. No pain management offered just a bottle of eye drops off the counter.
    I was in so much pain so when Brendan rang I blurted out what I was dealing with and he gave me a lecture about why wasn’t I going to the hospital. Then Andrew ordered??!!!😂😂😂 me to get there.
    So 9 pm last night I saw a doctor and she was very concerned about the loss of vision in my right eye. She made an appointment for an eye specialist for today.
    So fast forward I’ve seen the specialist and I’ve got Acute Anterior Uveitis.
    A rare condition and can cause loss of sight and blindness.
    I’ve now got eyedrops and pain killers to help improve and recover. Should be heaps better by next weekend but I’ve got to use the drops until I return home. What a drama!!!
    After the hospital visit we stopped a beautiful river walk and cafe. The area is so beautifully preserved and used by locals and tourists alike. Yvette and I treated ourselves to a late afternoon tea gazing over the river. I was so tired we headed home for a quiet night.    Read more

    Onto Manchester then Athens

    Arrived safely to Manchester and have a very comfortable room at the Holiday Inn. It is literally a walk across the road.
    Yvette had a very stressful day - found out that her flight purchase had been refunded and she no longer had a ticket to Brisbane. We managed to rebook a flight with Qantas so she will arrive in Brisbane just 2 hours later than the original booking.

    Athens first night

    Arrived in Athens and got a cab to meet up with Andrew 💕
    Lee and Sandy Wilson were also staying in the same building as us.
    Our bathroom was so tiny it made us laugh. We had a beautiful beachside dinner together and made our way back to our apartment and bed.Read more

    Earthquake and fire

    We are sitting outside in the dark 5am after evacuating our building- it’s on fire 🔥
    There was an earthquake an hour earlier which we didn’t feel.
    After sitting around for an hour or so we all (7 of us - Steve and Sandy, Lee and Sandy, Fi Smith and Andrew and I ) decided to get a taxi to our accommodation for tonight dump our suitcases there then head to the waterfront for breakfast.Read more

    1st Day in Thessaloniki

    After an unexpected start to our day we caught a taxi to our hotel that we’re staying in for the next few nights. Then onto the foreshore for much needed coffee and breakfast.
    Then explored the White Tower and walked to the top of the fortress. Magnificent views of the city of Thessaloniki.

    Bus trip to Napoli and Phillipi

    Today was brilliant exploring the remains of the ancient city of Phillipi.
    By 8:30 we were on our way to Napolis - approximately a 2 hour journey- our first stop of the day. This is where Paul first landed and from here the gospel message started spread through Europe. The Ancient City's port which nowadays is called Paliapoli (Old City) It is a beautiful sea port today. Acts 16
    Finally arrived at ruins of the city of Phillipi. They were so interesting and I’m was amazed at the knowledge of our guide Emily.
    We saw the place where Paul and Silas as prisoners were kept. The people in the market place would have been able to see them and hear them singing hymns. Acts 16:16-40.
    Then it was time for lunch. Our waiter went through all the drinks available then said they have ‘water with gas’ we just started laughing - never heard of sparkling water described like that before🤣
    Then back on the bus to the place where Lydia was baptised - it’s like as oasis. Acts 16 :11- 15. As you stand there all we could hear was the sound of the little river making its way down.    Read more

    I’d come down the a vomiting bug and did not join the group on today’s boat cruise 🥲
    Instead I kept my pillow company all day.

    Meteora then onto Kalambaka

    All luggage and fellow travellers were on the bus by 8:30am to start our day. After nearly 3 hours driving we were finally at the Nuns monastery.
    We had stood in awe at the landscape at Meteora - I feel my photos just don’t do justice to the sheer magnificence of the sights we stood gazing at.
    The Nuns monastery sat perched on a hill side overlooking the town of Meteora. This monastery is heritage listed by UNECSO and we can understand why.
    Also we were told that a James Bond movie ‘For your eyes only’ was shot at one of the monastery’s dotted along the mountain range.    Read more

    Corinth

    Rose this morning very excited to be visiting Corinth. All on board the bus for another 8 am departure as we had a 3 hour bus journey in front of us.
    On the way to Corinth we crossed the Corinth Canal. The Corinth Canal is a canal in Greece that connects the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. Completed in 1893.
    Then another hour saw us arrive at the Ancient Corinth Archaeological and Museum Site. Even though it drizzled while we were there it certainly didn’t bother us.
    Our guide showed us where it is thought ( but no proof) the synagogue that Paul taught at would have stood. The museum there was a marble pillar with a Menorah carved into it and the word Synagogue. Acts 18:1-17.
    After visiting the museum we choose to wander through the site again as we made our was to the little village outside the site where we had a very relaxing lunch before moving onto our hotel for the night.    Read more

    Delphi

    Another early start boarded the bus by 8 am then a long three hour drive through the windy roads past cotton fields and then tackled steep roads up mountain sides.
    We arrive at Mount Metamorphosis which features the temple of Apollo.
    All around us the landscape was just breathe taking.
    This is also a UNESCO SITE and we heard a lot about Greek mythology. We then visited the museum there which had some interesting sculptures.
    We then spent the afternoon in our hotel catching up on some washing and relaxing.    Read more

    Nafplio

    Drizzle was the order of the day until around midday when the sun came out.
    We left our hotel at 9am and drove into Nafplio. The city of Nafplio was strongly European feel. The streets were so beautiful to walk through. Many buildings had little balconies and most had planter boxes with many different kinds of plants and flowers.
    We lunched here then boarded the bus to Mycenae archeological site.
    In the second millennium BC, Mycenae was one of the major centres of Greek civilization—a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece
    Then a literal 2 minute bus ride to Tiryne site
    It was a huge underground room which was like a dome inside.
    Next stop our first night in Athens.    Read more
