  • Luzern

    August 15, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ 🌧 23 °C

Pleasant wandering through the Old Town and the lovely medieval bridges across the river. An rainstorm saw us scuttling to Museum Rosengart. What an unexpected gem. Fabulous collection of Picasso, Cezanne, Chagall, Kandinsky, Klee, Matisse, Pissarro and many more classic Modernist and Impressionist works.Read more

  • Mount Pilatus

    August 16, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Perfect weather for alpine cogwheel railway and cable car up to Mount Pilatus at 2,100m. Fantastic views of Luzern and surrounding lakes. We walked to Tomlishorn - the highest peak of the massif.

Bonding experience at Fräkmüntegg where we enjoyed tackling a ropes and zip line park with 10 different courses. Lots of balancing, leaps of faith and overcoming any fear of heights as we manœuvered our way through the obstacles 10 metres in the air!

Relaxation followed with a thrilling 1.3 km zoom down a summer toboggan run. Clearly Liz and I are adrenaline junkies at heart.

Murray wanted me to bring back a genuine Swiss Victorinox knife - but not a traditional folding pocket knife. Look what I found! (I chose the small one!!)

I wanted to buy up the colorful Le Crueset display - but settled on a photo!Read more

  • Lauterbrunnen

    August 17, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Very scenic train ride to Lauterbrunnen - our stop for the next few days.

A few interesting signs on our exploratory walk through the valley!

All of our walks both in the valley and on the mountains were accompanied by the constant tinkling of the very large cow bells worn by the dairy and goat herds.Read more

  • Mürren

    August 18, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

Low cloud and questionable visibility changed our plans to go up the Schilthorn 2,970m. So we took the cog train up to Grütschalp and then walked up to Mürren and Gimmelwald with views of the Jungfrau and Eiger when the clouds parted.

Lots of spectacular waterfalls as we made our way back down the valley floor including the Trümmelbach - a series of 10 glacier waterfalls inside the mountain, draining up to 20,000 litres a second from glaciers of the Mönch, Eiger & Jungfrau.
