  • Monkey Mia

We skipped Monkey Mia and Shark Bay on the way North so booked in for 4 nights on our way back down South. It was an amzing place and we were lucky with perfect weather for our whole time there. We spent plenty of time at the pool and beach, hired some kayaks and saw turtles, sharks and rays, kept our food safe from the resident emus and saw so many dolphins swimming around the jetty and the bay.Read more

  • Monkey Mia Marine Life Cruise

    August 28, 2023, Indian Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

While we saw a lot of marine life from the shore and kayaks, this cruise took things to a whole new level. We started with dolphins playing in the wake of the catamaran, went past an osprey nest and then headed out to the dugong feeding grounds where we saw dozens of dugongs. On the way back into shore we saw a sea snake, a shovel nosed shark and a leatherback turtle, and then Kelly, Jessica and Lewys enjoyed a salt spa in the netting at the front of the catamaran.Read more

We had a great stay at Sandstone, we met a lady in the camp kitchen who made jewellery from rocks and gems she found in the north west and bought Jessica a special pendent and necklace for her birthday. There was some great art on the water tanks next to the caravan park and interesting history about the agricultural and mining history of the area in the local park.

  • Prospecting with Hugh at Redcastle

    September 3, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 19 °C

After Jessica's birthday breakfast we drove to Leonora to meet up with Hugh and Sue before following Hugh out to his prospecting camp at Redcastle. We jumped straight on the detectors but didn't find anything apart from some old tins and wire. We cooked a barbecue for dinner and Hugh had organised a special birthday cake, including candles, for Jessica's birthday.

The weather got pretty wild the next day with strong winds and some rain. Once it had cleared we went out prospecting again but with no luck. Hugh did find a little gold nugget which Kelly, Jessica and Lewys helped to dig up and he then gave it to us which was so kind. For dinner we had a lamb stew cooked on the coals in a camp oven, it was amazing.
