    The start of our new travel quest, it's the summer holidays and this gives us a challenge. A beautiful day out in Oxford, with an added bit of fun to find some Harry Potter linked locations.

    Oxford University is strongly linked to the Harry Potter films as several iconic locations within the university served as filming locations for the movies, particularly for Hogwarts. The university's architectural grandeur, including the Bodleian Library and Christ Church College, provided the perfect backdrop for the magical world of Hogwarts.Read more

  • The Divinity School

    The Oxford University Bodleian Library is the main research library of the University. Attached to the library is The Divinity School. Completed in 1483 it was originally used for lectures, oral exams and discussions on Theology.

    This venue was used for filming multiple times in the Harry Potter films, most notably as the Hogwarts infirmary and where the students practice dancing for the Yule Ball in the Goblet of fire film.

  • Nearly headless Nick

    Outside of the Divinity School, at the Bodleian Library, is a bronze statue of William Herbert, the 3rd Earl of Pembroke, reportedly a good friend of William Shakespeare and Chancellor of the University of Oxford. Eavesdropping on a paid guided tour revealed that he was not the driving force behind building the facility but as he was the boss at the time, so he got a statue.

    Apparently, when his statue was erected the students did not approve and attempted to remove it, almost removing the head. The story goes that JK Rowling heard this story and used it as inspiration for her character Nearly headless Nick, one of the ghosts of Hogwarts.
