2. Arrival and Waiheke Island

Despite leaving Sacramento on the morning of 4/6, we arrived in Auckland late on 4/8 due to crossing the international date line. Our tour driver was waiting patiently for us, and we got to our hotel and checked in without ado.

Our first full day was spent on Waiheke Island, accessed via a 40 minute ferry ride 12 miles east of the Auckland ports. Waiheke, with multiple scenic beaches, wineries, and restaurants is a popular holiday destination for both locals and tourists alike. We chose to explore the island through the hop on hop off bus.
