Hamburg Day 2

Taking advantage of the drier weather to take a walking tour of the historic centre.

Phillip was an excellent guide, knowledgeable on the history of Hamburg but also funny with entertaining anecdotes of hamburgers. In 2 hours we took in: the town hall; the origin of Hamburg; the oldest street which was also the start of the catastrophic fire of 1842 and the warehouse district. We also saw a number of churches the most notable for me being the ruined St Nikolai church. Bombed in the war and left as a memorial to the loss and futility of war. Over 40,000 hamburgers were killed during the war.Read more
