  • Burriana - Ribera de Cabanes

    16–17 Mar 2024, Ispanya ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We learnt about this app from the nice people @DiegoRayen und Lena @draussen. Gute reise fur sie..❤️
The Ebro delta marshlands I flat, very flat, and the crops here is mainly rice.
It has its own underplayed silent charm, and lots of beautiful mudd dwelling birds with strange beaksOkumaya devam et

  • El Pinell de l'Ebre

    20 Mart 2024, Ispanya ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

We are in Penill de Brai, which is in the middle of the area where Franco won the decisive breakthrough in the Spanish Civil War. A number of Danish volunteers who fought against the fascists died here, among other comrades from the international brigades, including the danish poet Gustav Munch-Petersen, who came to my mother's home when she was a little girl.

We are sitting in the hotel's restaurant, which is its own little pocket of rural boredom from the 50s, 60s or 70s, it can be hard to decide.

The trip up here was via a sensational cycle path, built where there used to be a mountain railway, over bridges and long, perhaps 500 meter long, black tunnels, with nice little train stations on the route. But there will be a video of that trip later.

Right now it's just quiet Bossa, and a thought for a great Danish poet, who left his children and wife at home, and met his fate in the retreat after the battle of the Ebro, in the neighboring town of Gandesa. The walls of the houses in Penill have graffiti that shows that although the majority of Spaniards do not want to talk about the civil war, it is still here, here at the center of the 'Batalla de la l'Ebre'

90 clics over the mountains is kinda rough, for a pair of nearly 60 year old bikepacking n00bs, but we did made it to Tarragona, and it is lively and beautiful, and what a beautiful spanish spring day in the mountains.
Now we need to pull us self up by the hair, and go find some food

  • Tarragona - Sitges

    22 Mart 2024, Ispanya ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

After a nice day in Tarragona we continued towards Sitges.
Some nice rides along/close to the sea, but also some less nice roads.
Already riding into Sitges we found our good friends Jens Christian and Stig, having a late lunch by the sea. Later we all had dinner together and went on for drinks and laughter at a cocktailbar. Truly a great evening.Okumaya devam et

  • Barcelona

    24 Mart 2024, Ispanya ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

The trip from Sitges to Barcelona had some steep and crowded roads but also some flat beach laps. Unfortunately Kammas bycycle showed signs of error, making the engine turn off unexpectedly. In Barcelona we therefore had to consult a bike mechanic and wait for it to be fixed...Okumaya devam et

  • Sant Cebria de Vallalta - Girona

    28 Mart 2024, Ispanya ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

The trip from Sant Cebria de Vallalta to Girona was pretty tough, - heights, annoying roads, many kms on graveltrails so after a snack at a Roman bath, we arrived tired to Girona (but circled through old town on the way to the hotel, and that was Girona for us 🙄). But the Girona region for sure is a cycling area so no problems with bike - storage and - charging 😀Okumaya devam et

  • Girona - Roses

    29–30 Mar 2024, Ispanya ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Easiest 60 kilometers ever, 20 degrees and sunny, sligthly downhill all the way, and a BIG tailwind too. We drowe 20 kmh without using the pedals in gravel roads! Easy Peasy...

Landscape was beautiful, all sorts of animals, cows, sheep, and a bunch of horses came galopping to see who we where, and parked directly in the trail, lots of storks in rice fields.
What a ride, thank you wonderful Catalunya

  • 5 star Camping at Crique de Porteils

    30–31 Mar 2024, Fransa ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

After a great cycling day, peaking at Col de Banyuls, the with a pretty steep decent, that tested the bicycle brakes to the limit (my rig totals at about 140 kilos), and then through the beautiful valley in green fertile side of the pyrenees, to Banyuls, and then north up the coast to camping Crique de Porteille, a 5 star camping ground ( people dont say hello when you greet them? ), but our spot is amazing.
Our (old) bodies are tired, but holding up, although a 10% gradient is easier with electricity, it is still really hard gradient that takes a lot of effort, e-bikes only give a percentage of what you put into the pedals, they are not a scooter.
All the gravel roads we have been doing, mostly due to the fantastic Komoot app, mayby about 40% is really hard on my lungs, i thought for a start, that all the coughing is was due to virus, but suddenly i remembered that all the Spanish mtb cyclist covered their nose and mouth when riding. But coughing is really stigmatized when sitting in public spaces, hope it dissappear in france.
    Allez enfants!

  • Merde (pardon my french)

    31 Mar–1 Nis 2024, Fransa ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

    Colliure
Sleeping on a cliffside directly to the sea, even it was beautiful, and we saw tuna jumping in the morning, isn't really the brightest idea in a rain storm, tent didn't move, but sat in a pool of water, wich slowly penetrated the bottom of the tent during the morning. We got it dried up and moved ahead.

    Perpignan.
The trip here from Coillure was cold and dangerously windy, nearly blowing us off the road, and Morten was just miserable. He got fever and was diagnosed with bronchitis, and penicillin prescribed , it's as presumed, not allergy, and we are grounded by the doctor for at least 2 to 3 days,

  • Perpignan off-centre

    1 Nisan 2024, Fransa ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Today our adventure is, for Kamma, while Morten is resting in the hotel room, to watch the whereabouts of (the few) people passing by our dated, exhausted, tacky hotel (with good service 😀🙏) on the outskirts of Perpignan.
Due to Easter, shops are closed, but hey, there is sun on the balcony, opportunity for some office-work, and we don't need to think about where we will sleep tonight!
Highlight so far is the duration of the laundry-truck drivers stay at our hotel 🤔

Mortens mother fell and was hopitalized last week. Things are complicated and need our attention so unfortunately we have had to stop bikepacking 😔, have rented a car and will deliver the bikes to a freight company in Paris today. On Sunday we fly back to Copenhagen.Okumaya devam et

  • Paris!

    5 Nisan 2024, Fransa ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Even if it was for a sad reason that we ended up in #Paris, - which never was on our travelschedule, we (of course) enjoyed the "chock" of arriving to a buzzing, lively Springtime Paris Friday night. People chatting, eating, drinking, enjoying (city)life 😃.
We got sophisticated snacks a la Esu Lee at Le Calavier, climbed to Sacre Coeur, found a lovely shop " tai tai" and on Saturday treated ourselves to extravagant shellfish lunch at #lacoupole 🦀🦞🦐🦪
Strolled through Jardin de Luxembourg/Pantheon and finally had a nice glass of bio wine at Quai de Jemmapes
    #aurevoir Paris and #France - we'll be back

  • Copenhagen – it´s a wrap + throwback!

    7 Nisan 2024, Danimarka ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Destiny propelled us back to our home in Copenhagen (Frederiksberg)…
BUT! - we are ecstatic about having actually done this bikepacking adventure, even if it became shorter than expected. It fully lived up to our expectations, our (few) worries were pushed aside, we had so much joyful time. Of course we also had challenges, obstacles, some (minor) struggles with equipment, navigation, judgement of own abilities and wants. But this was all just how it was “supposed” to be.
For a while we said to ourselves that we never bikepacked before. BUT, - in fact we, in the early 90´ties when my father and his wife had rented a small summercabin in Sjællands Odde, popped our bikes on the train to Holbæk and rode on them from Holbæk to Odden. The last 15 km you go to the tip of the peninsula, there is basically only one road. Spending a few nights there it was clear to us that it would be too boring to go back on the same road so we decided to go to Jylland.
My mother was anyway coming that way to deliver my toddler niece to her mother, who lived in Jylland, so she agreed to bring a tent and some (thin!) foam-mats (I believe we might already have had sleeping bags) to us. From Odden we went with the ferry to Ebeltoft, camped in the garden of a relatives´ summerhouse, cycled on to Århus, visited friends, continued to Hov and took the ferry to Samsø. Wildcamped as there were no “ATM” and banks were closed that day. Had a small collision and Kamma hurt her knees and elbows and only wished for cool salty water, which is how we ended up in Ballen Havn camping/beach.
In the only café a band played, we thought they were pretty good so we went again the next evening, - it turned out that the band was/is in fact the now very known band “Michael Learns to Rock” 😊
We returned by ferry to Kalundborg, - cycled to Hedehusene and went by train for last app. 30 km.
So voila, - that was in fact our first (very improvised :-) ! ) bikebacking adventure
By the way; - the name Lost Memories is a joke that was triggered by the "countryduo" photo that my sister once unintendedly took of us.

    THANKS! :
It´s important for us to say that before our Spain-France trip, we truly learned a lot from all the bikepacking group conversations and blogs we`ve been following on facebook, the videos we´ve watched on YouTube etc. We spent a lot of time on planning the equipment etc. and we feel that it all paid of.
