    Day 1

    November 16, 2022 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Picked up and paid for our Autotrail Comanche from Billy and Sally and left to load her up with provisions at the local New World. We then took off to "The Cove" which is about 35-40kms south of Christchurch. It is a freedom camp on the banks of a wonderful swimming river.
Our first night was quiet and restful, not waking up until 8:30am. Something totally strange (and very late) for Christine and me.
Today (16th) was a day of rest, and finding out how this wonderful lady we will be travelling in actually works. We also put up our NZMCA badges, and MHF identification; went for a river walk, slept, and read.
Roll on tomorrow. We are off to visit a dear old friend in Ashburton.

  • Trials and party time

    November 19, 2022 in New Zealand ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

An eventful day... awoke (a little late) to heavy rain and flooding throughout Christchurch. Our time with an old friend the night before at New Brighton Beach was wonderful but we now had our first problem to solve.. not only no hot water but no water at all. After a quick call to previous owners we were off to visit them to sort the problem which they did, before we heading off to Rolleston to visit our Sth African friends and to attend their daughters birthday party.
It is evening now, ... the rain has stopped, and we are settling into a night of fellowship.
We are already loving this lifestyle and our new home.
Our trip north commences in the morning.

  • Day 6 Off to Hanmer Springs

    November 20, 2022 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

A wee bit of an early start as our Sth African friend came out to our motorhome at 6.30am to watch the AB's play England. Then after a great British breakfast Gsry and I were off to pick up some goodies from the Rolliston Shopping Centre.
The trip north to Hanmer Springs... oh yes... we had planned on heading out to Akaroa, but with all the rain, the road damage, and driving a very long motorhome we elected to leave that trip until next year.
We only had one small delay as three lanes tried to fit into one... it never works well!!
Arrived on site at Top10 to discover our power site was without power... sorted very quickly by the camp.
We are now blobbing out and catching up on a few tasks. Off to the wonderful Springs in the morning for a really hot one!
Photo of our travel setup with Cyrus' bed so as he can be with us, be safe, and see where we are going.
My bed is going to feel good tonight... it is only 3:42pm and I feel ready for it already.

It was a wonderful day and totally relaxing and our sleep after a few hours pool-side was in another world.
Another storm is due to hit Hanmer Springs later today therefore we have elected to move 160kms down to the coast and watch the whales and dolphins at play.
Maybe we will blob out there for a few days.... we will see.

  • Day 9 Are we there yet?

    November 23, 2022 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

So cute, and what a good boy.
Christine and I can adjust to motorhome life but we were never assured of how Cyrus would take life on the road. We'll.... he just loves it. He loves all the walks, he loves all the attention given him, and he loves all the cuddles. What he does not like is being left alone which is something he is needing to get used to as tomorrow Christine and I go out to watch whales watching us watching them..,Read more

  • Day 12.. Back into Civilization

    November 26, 2022 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

We have been totally off the grid for the past few days at a NZMCA farm site above Ward Beach. I totally restful and extremely pleasant site. Dolphins played in the small bay this morning for a couple of hours.
Yesterday Christine, Cyrus, and I walked along to the Ward Beach Bolders. Quite impressive just sitting there doing nothing!!
Boats which go after the crayfish get launched here from behind CAT6 bulldozers.
We also hosted out first 5'sies nite.
Today we are at the races... not quite. We are camped at the Blenheim race course.. along with four other MH's from Ward Beach .. let the fun begin.

  • Day 15.. It is Not A Day At The Races

    November 30, 2022 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

We are in a race to win. Here we are at the Blenheim race course having arrived here on Sunday afternoon. This is a well known freedom camping site for NZMCA members. We had intended only spending a couple of days here but have decided to stay until our ferry crossing this Friday afternoon.
Being here is so relaxing, slow start for the day, plus the opportunity to get tasks done, and items bought.
We are all doing well, sleeping well, and enjoying the life we have chosen.

  • Go North For The Sun .. "yeah right"

    December 7, 2022 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

After a few days in the sun at the beach we came north this morning to Antartica... no not quite... Napier. It us just that it is windy and as cold as Scott Base.
We did settle at a freedom camp site right in the city on the Marine Parade but decided the constant noise and your neighbour being only 700mm away we would move on.
We went and bought supplies and then went and parked up at the expansive NZMCA camp.... well worth it.
Off to check out some of the regions products and sights tomorrow... roll it on!

  • To Cruise or Not to Cruise?

    December 8, 2022 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Today was a fine day but some-what windy and chilly. The morning was taken up with laundry at a local Liquid Laundromat... it was great to be all up to date again.
We then went and parked up at a West End Beach Reserve and Christine made lunch while I took our boy for a walk. Later we took on the Art Deco CBD in Waymaker. Up, down and around we went looking at the marvelous architecture of this wonderful city after which it was off to our pilgrimage to the Sidewalk Cafe'. A stop we always make when in Napier.
From there it was to the reserve just down the road to watch the cruise liner "Crown Princess" sail without us!!
Off around the corner to pick up our order of the best fish 'n chips in NZ just to find that our GPS decided to pack a hissy fit!! Trying to use my cell phone to get back to our camp site in the thick of 5pm rush traffic was not a happy experience.
Oh how wonderful it is to rest up relax and to dream of my life on my Cruise liner.... dream on until tomorrow when we head out onto thd blacktop once again.

  • First trip ends... A new day dawns.

    December 11, 2022 in New Zealand ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

Yesterday our journey of delivery ended back at Rotorua. Our dear friends at Keswick Christian Camp are hosting us for the next week while we load our personal items into our MH for our pilgrimage ahead.
Already we have been blessed by all we have met on the highway as we travelled North. By the wonderful motorhome community whom could tell that we were rookies and helped us with suggestions and ideas.. what a marvelous community. And we were so blessed by Billy and Sally the previous owners of "Waymaker" for all their help, for sharing their knowledge with us, for being there for us when we needed advice, and for equipping Waymaker for her trip north... thank you.
Finally our adventure now starts. In Him we have a field before us that is white for the harvest... together, forward, onward we go into it.
Next trip is about to commence.....

  • Trip 2 to we Don't Know Where

    December 17, 2022 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Today is a day of preparation and rest.
After a week of catching up with friends, verious meals to attend countless trips to and from our storage shed as we loaded Waymaker up with rods, summer clothes, pots and pans, plus a thousand of other goodies. Plus getting Cyrus checked our at our Vet, plus a clip and makeover for Christmas it was a very very busy week.
This morning we loaded her up with water and food. Look her to a local "dump site" to empty her other tanks, refuelled the Citroen C5, and then gave Waymaker her first wash for a month. We had proposed to go through to the NZMCA camp in Tauranga but decided that after such a busy week, it would be wise of us to rest up and leave in the morning.
This will be the first trip on our pilgrimage (Ps 84) journey
and we are in for very exciting times ahead....
