    Located on the top of a hill, Kumamoto Castle (熊本城, Kumamotojō) is the undisputed symbol of the town of the same name and the third largest castle in Japan . Built in 1607 by the first feudal lord of the region, Kiyomasa Kato, it was considered impregnable due to its careful construction and elevated position.
