    Day out

    June 29, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ 🌩️ 31 °C

Went to visit the French quarter

Aside from 15 minutes of tropical torrential downpour it was unbelievably hot and humid. I forgot that the foot paths are actually the motorbike parking in Vietnam so we did some traffic dodging to get to and from our destinations! About 5km down to district 1 for the Notre Dame cathedral, old post office (ft. Ho Chi Minh 🫶), presidential palace (where the fall of Saigon took place) and some wicked iced tea and Banh mi for lunch!Read more

  • Oui Oui Paris 🇫🇷

    June 30, 2023 in France ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

We might have traversed the entirety of Paris by foot today (23,000 steps let's GO)! We ticked off the old quarter, (the real) Notre Dame, a walk along the Seine, the Louvre, the Jardins des Tuileries and saw the Eiffel tour from affar! We decided not to do another 20,000 steps home and instead rented city bikes and Thibaut Pinot-ed our way home up a (massive) hill! Between us we consumed 3 baguettes and are writing this from a street side brasserie (French beer garden).Read more

  • Kate and the impressionists

    July 1, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Went on a Parisian bakery adventure in the morning for pane au chocolate and escargot! Then we checked out of the air bnb, and headed to the Musee d'Orsay to spend a few hours before our train to Bordeaux in the early evening. I saw all the paintings from the Katie and the Impressionists book hahaha The impressionists were remarkable in real life and we found some cool new artists to get excited about too! We hid from the rain under a bridge next to the Seine to eat a very French lunch before heading back to the main train station to head on to Bordeaux 🚄Read more

  • Bordeaux pour deux (et trois)

    July 2, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We found a Bailey! Wondered around the main town of Bordeaux and saw all the sights of the old city! Alfred was very keen to make the most of the bikes that come with our air bnb so we rode the 6km in and out of Bordeaux twice today! We had a very lazy afternoon having a picnic in the mains gardens in Bordeaux and watching the end of stage 2! We headed back into town to have dinner and drinks at a funky bar with a friend from Bailey's hostel and spent the evening drinking Boudreaux wine (🤠🍷) before riding home again ((:Read more

  • Saint Emilion 🥖✨🪵✨🥖

    July 3, 2023 in France ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Big adventure navigating the busses to get here but Saint Emilion is stunning 🤩 it is a UNESCO heritage listed 'Cultural Landscape' with lots of Jesus tributes and wine 🍷 We went up to the top of the Kings Keep and down into the Catacombs and the largest monolithic church in Europe! But the best but was witnessing American's get roasted by a French man for asking if they could get Champagne in Bordeaux 🤠Read more

  • bikesbikesbikes (Pau)

    July 5, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Not enough wifi to upload so prepare for a big France photo dump!
We made it to Pau! Bikes approaching... the whole town was decorated for the tour and alfred was starting to get unbelievably excited 😳 we cooked dinner with potentially the best potatoes ever made by Alfred before finding an Australia themed bar run by a a French man who has been there once (very strange) and we learnt alfred is bad at darts. After dinner we went for an ice cream and bike-support-car spotting adventure!Read more

  • tour and travel

    July 5, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

I think I saw more bikes today than I ever have in my whole life. We walked all over town at a cracking pace trying to find which hotels the team busses were parked at so "we" could take photos of their mechanics and spare bikes... the grand depart was like a huge party and I started my new mission of getting a bucket hat from the tour sponsors before the end of our trip. I was not successful in that mission today )): We travelled up the mountain to Cauterets which was one big party and planned our attack on the mountain ⛰️Read more

  • The Greatest Day of Alfred's Life

    July 6, 2023 in France ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

We camped out on the mountain for about 7 hours or so and it was just one massive party really! The time went really quick and ngl I had way more fun sitting on the mountain than I thought I would! Alfred's hammock building skills have demonstrated why he needs to do 1 more subject before he's a real engineer 👀 I also GOT MY BUCKET HAT !! Pizza in town for dinner and preparing for our massive travel day tomorrow...Read more

  • One large journey

    July 7, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

14hrs between getting on the first bus and arriving in Aix-en-Provence. Unbelievably, we made it.

(Note to self: remember the 7 minute jazz cover of riders on the storm)

Ft. Several photos from Kate of Alfred and Bailey slowing losing their minds in a crazy Jesus town called Lourdes (not pictured; Alfred's biblical dance moves)Read more

  • A day in aix

    July 8, 2023 in France ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

Aix is known as the city of fountains, apparently there is over 150 and it seems like there is one on every intersection! We spotted a dog having a great splash in one and alfred got a bit jealous - it's so hot here! Today we visited Paul Cezanne's studio and gardens and I finally worked out how to order the kind of coffee I want 🤩☕️ had a quiet recharging afternoon planning our hike and went out for dinner and soaked up the vibes in a very lovely squareRead more

  • Up, up, up (and down)

    July 9, 2023 in France ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

We hiked up Paul Cezanne's favourite mountain! Had to get on the first bus to try and beat the heat but it still got pretty hot anyway 🥵 was an absolutely stunning hike with an unexpected monastery at the top! It was also unexpectedly infested with goats who tried to eat my baguette )): made it down just in time to get one of the very infrequent Sunday busses and head home to watch the last couple hours of the tour in a cool dark air bnb roomRead more

  • Nice to be here

  • Nice day 2

    July 11, 2023 in France ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

A trip up to the Fort Chateaux,
    A French crepe, and
    A surprisingly smooth easyjet journey

Last four photos are from Palermo

  • Nice -> Sicily

    July 11, 2023 in France ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

    Happy Birthday Mum!

Started our day by hiking up a hill on the point of Nice for some unexpected ancient ruins and more expected spectacular views! We then ticked the last item off Alfred's French Bucket List by finding a delicious creperie for lunch (not pictured because we demolished them). After that is was an adventure finding the underground tram stop to the airport and having one last bottle of French wine to accompany one last swim in Nice. Arriving in Sicily we found we had booked an amazing spot with a rooftop terrace that has 360 views of the old town in Nice!Read more

  • Palermo

    July 12, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

We went for an exploration of everything Vince recommended:
    Norman, Byzantine and Arabian architecture
    Street market
    Church with the Holy Cannoli
    Catacombs (would not recommend)

  • Palermoo2 electric boogaloo

    July 13, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

There was a trip to the beach and some al fresco concerto today

Kate: No photos from Mondello beach as we were too busy swimming and avoiding the coconut salesmen! In the evening we were under the impression we were visiting the third largest opera house in Europe tonight but we (Alfred) read the Italian information wrong so we enjoyed a lovely Italian concerto in an old library building - the definition of a happy accident (aside from the mad sprint across town to make it on time). We also stumbled across a super interesting Mafia history museum and Alfred ate ice cream in a brioche bun.Read more
