Departing Cairns

And we're off on a 30 hour, 3 flight journey to Berlin.
Oh, and we bought an apartment in Cairns at the airport literally as we were boarding the plane........
Hallo Berlin! First stop, beers!

After 30 hours of travel, we made our way to our Airbnb, had a quick shower and immediately set out to meet a bunch of the crew for a pre-dinner beer at Mikkeller in Kollwitzkiez.

We walked from Mikkeller to the oldest restaurant in Berlin, and spotted the famous TV Tower (Berliner Fernsehturm) in Alexandraplatz

We had a delicious pork knuckle that was massive. Jill tried to eat the entire thing in one bite.

Brandenburg Tor

After a late brekky, we headed out to explore the city. First stop, Brandenburg Tor.
Bundestag

After the Tor, we walked a little ways to see the German Parliament building, known as Bundestag.
Berliner Dom / Cathedral

Jill and I walked along the river crossing a bridge over to Museum Island and found ourselves in the Lustgarten with a perfect view of the cathedral.
Checkpoint Charlie

We headed over to Checkpoint Charlie, aka capitalism fail...
So much historical significance washed away by commercialism.
The Berlin Wall

A short walk from Checkpoint Charlie to a preserved section of the Berlin Wall (Berlin Mauer) that overlooks a vacant space where the East German Secret Police Headquarters (Stasi) existed.
Back to Hüttenpalast to reset

After walking about 15km, we finally made our way back to check-in to our Berlin home, the Hüttenpalast. What an epic location!

I caught wind of a secret park doof happening about a 20 minute walk from Hüttenpalast, so we gathered the troops and headed off to try and find the party. Jill caught up with her co-worker / friendLæs mere

Back to end the night at the Hüttenpalast with the birthday boy himself.

Up and at 'em, we headed around the corner from Hüttenpalast for a fantastic (and giant) breakfast bagel.

Family Birthday Dinner at Hüttenpalast

We all came back to Hüttenpalast for a glorious Turkish takeaway family dinner that Julia arranged.
